Campy seat post
 

Help me with my dilemma. I have a 27.2 mm campagnolo seatpost and I need a 27 mm. Am I crazy to just sand 2 millimeters off the post to make it fit or should I look for a trade somewhere? Just trying to save that last $100

Sand away. Only purists will complain - but get it sanded down accurately. If you don't, you'll end up in the same boat, except you'll have a post that won't stay in place instead of not going into the frame!

I once sanded down an alloy stem from 22.2 to 22.0. I clamped it in the vice and used a two foot length of 'strip sander' belt. These come in various grades (course to fine) and can be 1" wide. Cloth backed so pretty tough.

I made one complete wrap around the stem and ran the strip back and forth, sanding the whole diameter with each pass. Swish, swish, swish then stop and measure with a good caliper. Swish, swish, swish then test fit into the tube. It did not take long and it was easy to restrict the sanding to the 'hidden' portion of the stem. This should work with a seat post too.

BTW, the test fitting proved that I really only need to get to 22.1mm as the tube was not actually round. You may find something like that too.

I bet someone here has a 27.0 and needs a 27.2. Post it in the ISO/Trade thread.
