Another 83 Voyageur quirk: CS cable stop id?

IMG_1475.jpg
It seems there are some little oddball things about my 1983 Voyageur. I have a handful of scavenged cable housing ferrules, all of which are too large to fit into the chain stay cable stop. Is this a simple matter of my not having a common ferrule size, or is the part I need more rare? I may be able to shrink a ferrule down by compressing in a lathe chuck, but asking the question sometimes saves me from being hasty and ham-handed

Hmmm, is the cable stop cleaned out of possible gunk? Has the side been compressed so it shrank the diameter?

If not, then back to the cable end hunt. Those are nice, love my 88 V-

Went to the LBS and hunted through their bin to find a small ferrule. Not rare, I just didn't have one.
