Has your wife ever said..........

"Another Bike?"

In her defense we have about 15 bikes in the garage, and I bought to old bikes in the last week.

steppinthefunk 08-16-17 07:26 PM

My secret...
I try as much as possible to only buy black bikes.
She can never tell the difference.

qcpmsame 08-16-17 07:39 PM

Fortunately, nope. I try to always talk with her about my bikes, and the various parts and components that come to our home before I purchase anything. Just the way we have done things the 41+ years we have been married. It works out really well for us.

one of the few pros of being divorced - no explaining bikes to the wife

After a certain point you just get "the look" and then she goes back in the house......... you're almost there. ;)

That's it.....

I have to many colors....

She'll say "another bike?" , but no looks or recrimination. She's a good gal, she gets it.

I was a dedicated N=1 guy. Then one day my wife said to me, "You ride too many miles to have just one bike. We're going to the LBS." Then I test rode half a dozen bikes, and she bought me the one I liked the most. I wouldn't have believed it unless it happened to me.

" Another bike? "

Yes I get that, and for good reason. I'm on a tight budget and kept on a short leash:). But generally I can "get away with" buying just about any combination of tools, consumables, and components, as long as there is no frame attached:innocent:

I'll wager you will never hear, "What, another Diamond !!@#!"

I'm there lol.

"Get that damn bike out of my kitchen!" You mean kitchen/workshop? Works for a day or two, then you better clear out; or parts and things start disappearing.

To be honest, I'm more concerned that she hasn't said that about the most recent addition. Best case, she just hasn't noticed yet. Worst case...I prefer not to indulge my imagination like that.

Once!
Only once.

jimmuller 08-17-17 05:34 AM

My sweetie usually tells me to start searching for another one. Then she takes pics of me working it.

But then, she knows my ebay and paypal passwords. :)

LOL...I have one I park in different rooms of the house...that way, she may not notice when I add a bike.

Hilarious!

Velocivixen 08-17-17 08:38 AM

I have 13 bikes, and Mr. VV has 2 bikes (he never drives, only rides). Four of my bikes are Raleigh Twentys.....he playfully stated one day when he got home that there was a "flock" of Twentys trying to intimidate his bikes.....talked about mob mentality, etc. All in playful jest.

He gets a kick about my tenacious enthusiasm in regard to different bikes I bring home. I'm thinking about a recumbent now so.....we'll see.

noglider 08-17-17 09:55 AM

I think my wife says something more like, "So what is this one for?" as if having a distinct purposes makes it make sense.

Chrome Molly 08-17-17 10:04 AM

I have 15 hooks on the ceiling of the basement. As long as the bikes aren't in the way elsewhere I'm good.

non-fixie 08-17-17 10:32 AM

Yes. But over the years the tone changed. At first it was with genuine surprise, then the accompanying frown appeared. Things improved when she moved to a hopeful "Is it for me?". These days she's actually interested and has a knowledgeable opinion on my buys. That doesn't mean that she always supports them, just that her criticism is better-funded. :o

Wildwood 08-17-17 10:40 AM

The last comment from the Mrs. was 'at least it's not as expensive as race cars or boats'. To which I wanted to reply, 'or your exercisement equipped room that never ever gets used' or 'the $35,000 SUV in the driveway', or 'the endless steam of cosmetics and other beauty stuff that Amazon Prime delivers several days a week'. But I kept my mouth SHUT. A sane man tries harder to keep the 2nd marriage in tact. 30years, this second time, has come with many compromises, on both sides. Worth it for the kids' sake.

Chombi1 08-17-17 10:44 AM

A neice visiting from out of state once got a glimpse of the silhouette of three of my bikes hanging from the ceiling in one of our rooms, just as I was closing the door to hide the mess in there.... and asked me......was that like sculptural art hanging from your ceiling in there?? Uhmmmm....yes.....
