YES Over the last then years I collected frame numbers and pictures of old Swiss bicycles as I always wanted to know their age. Today I visited a small bike shop during lunch break where I saw a an old Allegro girls bike with serial no 159666. I couldn't resist and bought it for my 8 year old daughter. On the way back, I saw one more Allegro with serial no 190591 next to the pavement.

RHM's post above provides a link to the flicker page he posted my photos that I sent to him. One of these pics is of the pedals that are on this bike. I've never seen any quite like these, has anyone else? They appear to be alloy.

I know Stefan and his wonderful page speedbicycles, but one of the bikes has a wrong date which causes confusion. Okay - this is what I have, and hopefully this data helps. The dates are to be viewed skeptically - but there are some observable trends and I agree with Michael/Amberg that Allegro serial numbers do appear to be sequential. At any rate, you get a list in serial number, description, what I believe the model designation to be, notes on frame details and parts, and links to the assorted bikes as they appear online. Have fun!

Thanks for publishing this info, rustystrings61. BTW, I just purchased this Allegro #99116 this week after negotiating with the previous owner for a couple months. When I get a chance to go over it a little better I'll forward some missing info on it to you.

I see my serial number 249871 is in that sheet (thatnks [MENTION=342124]rustystrings61[/MENTION]) and I can add that it was originally painted orange, no chrome, all 531DB, has Campy DOs and forkends, a Vagner flat-top crown, Georg Fisher sand-cast BB shell...does the SN indicate circa 1975? That's what Craig Griffith thought it was when he sold it to me.

I bought mine off craigslist a few years ago. It’s all chrome; I’m not sure if it once had more paint that faded away (?) or if it started out this way. No markings other than the head badge. It still has what I assume are the original campagnolo components and Brooks saddle. I have photos to post! As soon as I’ve made enough comments.

That's a very nice looking all Campagnolo setup though. Do you have a small furry animal in your house? :) |
