Allegro database ... does one exist?
YES Over the last then years I collected frame numbers and pictures of old Swiss bicycles as I always wanted to know their age. Beside in the internet I found lots of old bicycles at Swiss railway stations and in Swiss collections and museums. Meanwhile I have a huge database with old Allegro, Mondia, Condor, Cilo, Tigra and many other brands. Valuable information I also got from old Swiss bicycle newspaper which date back as far as 1889. ... May I have your opinion on the serial number 165167? I assume 1959 or so. |
Today I visited a small bike shop during lunch break where I saw a an old Allegro girls bike with serial no 159666. I couldn't resist and bought it for my 8 year old daughter. On the way back, I saw one more Allegro with serial no 190591 next to the pavement.
Do you want to see photos? How can I poste them? |
RHM's post above provides a link to the flicker page he posted my photos that I sent to him. One of these pics is of the pedals that are on this bike. I've never seen any quite like these, has anyone else? They appear to be alloy.

Hi Michael, and welcome to the forum!
Sounds like you're the man we've been looking for! What date would you place on Allegro #235909 ? Thanks much, Joe Meanwhile, I reworked my Allegro data of the seventies. I revise my statement to 1971-1972. |

We keep thinking Allegro's serial numbers are sequential and logical. I am not so sure.
Thank you for posting all the links. I am, however sure that Allegro's serial numbers are sequential and logical. I know Stefan and his wonderful page speedbicycles, but one of the bikes has a wrong date which causes confusion. P.S.: Thank you for your PM, unfortunately I can't answer it at the moment as I got this info: The administrator has restricted use of the private message system to members with less than 10 Posts I will come back to you later. Regards Michael |

Do you want to see photos? How can I poste them? You are not allowed to post URLs until you have at least 10 posts maybe this will work: flickr.com/photos/137185960@N06/37308840066/in/dateposted-public/ |
Okay - this is what I have, and hopefully this data helps. The dates are to be viewed skeptically - but there are some observable trends and I agree with Michael/Amberg that Allegro serial numbers do appear to be sequential. At any rate, you get a list in serial number, description, what I believe the model designation to be, notes on frame details and parts, and links to the assorted bikes as they appear online. Have fun!
Please be advised that the document linked above is a Google sheet, etc. |

Thanks for publishing this info, rustystrings61. BTW, I just purchased this Allegro #99116 this week after negotiating with the previous owner for a couple months. When I get a chance to go over it a little better I'll forward some missing info on it to you.

I see my serial number 249871 is in that sheet (thatnks rustystrings61) and I can add that it was originally painted orange, no chrome, all 531DB, has Campy DOs and forkends, a Vagner flat-top crown, Georg Fisher sand-cast BB shell...does the SN indicate circa 1975? That's what Craig Griffith thought it was when he sold it to me.

Allegro fans should definitely check out this Allegro that's on eBay now:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-Swiss-...EAAOSwCJxaDOTM It's not mine, of course! I have one almost just like it, most of the same components, same shop sticker. |

I don’t know if you’ll ever see this comment on such an old post, but I have Allegro #167962!

I bought mine off craigslist a few years ago. It’s all chrome; I’m not sure if it once had more paint that faded away (?) or if it started out this way. No markings other than the head badge. It still has what I assume are the original campagnolo components and Brooks saddle. I have photos to post! As soon as I’ve made enough comments.

So close! Do you have any info about yours? Get to ten posts and post a pic. Mine is an ugly duckling and getting rebuilt, again.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...184ece55f.jpeg And can I add links now too? I guess I’ll find out. Here’s my Flickr album with some close ups. https://www.flickr.com/photos/185805...57712014759841 |

Here’s my Flickr album with some close ups. https://www.flickr.com/photos/185805...57712014759841 Original parts would have been Weinmann brakes and levers, Stronglight crank, and Campy Gran Sport shifters and derailleurs. That's a very nice looking all Campagnolo setup though. Do you have a small furry animal in your house? :) |

If you look at all the Allegro threads you'll find mine, which came with Campy hubs, cone dates 58 and 59, so I assume the bike is from about 1960. My serial number is six digits,165167. So if yours has only five digits, I'm going to guess it's quite a bit earlier than 1958, unless Allegro seriously upped their production numbers right around then (which is of course possible).
