Maybe there was an export version with more room, for 27" wheels? I have one of those honeycombed frame sets and there's just as little room beneath the fork crown as on my earlier version. Still no room for a MAFAC "RACER".

11 speed

Here's some pics before the test ride. The only problem was getting the front to shift to the big ring. It is a little finicky. The front derailleur is a Shmano "light action" presently. The cassette is an 11-32 and the chainrings are 46-38 Sram. Wheels are Vuelta 36 spoke.

With a 46 I'm riding on the big chainring again. I feel twenty years younger!

Looks great and it is nice to see an old bike brought back to life. I don't mind the wheel decals on most new wheels but I might consider removing the ones from those wheels. Too many colours, fonts, etc.

I was going to remove them immediately because I thought them extremely gaudy. I put them on to check things out and thought they made it look more modern and fast. I'm on the fence. I did get the front derailleur shifting properly.
