Rear axle
My rear axle is bent and I want to replace it. My hub is C Record. Spacing is 126 mm. What length should I be looking for? My drop outs are about 7mm thick. 14 + 126 is 140. So something less than 140 and > 126? Maybe 134?

Typically an axle is 11mm longer than the spacing. However, anything you buy will be for 130mm spacing - just cut it to length.

I agree it is likely around 137ish. Don't bother looking for and paying the high prices for am original CampI axle just get a Wheels Manufacturing axle they are bit better.
Wheels Manufacturing Hub Axles Ratz they don't make a CampI 137. I've used this 141 and cut it down because I resoaced my wheels for an 8spd FW at one time. Wheels Manufacturing QR Rear Axle, 10mm x 26tpi x 141mm |
Make sure that the ends of the axle don't extend so far as to compress the conical springs and prevent the quick release shaft from compressing the dropouts.

134mm was the nominal length for a Campagnolo 6 speed hub. As noted, a small variation (+/- 2mm) is not going to make a big difference. However, the closer you get to the dimension across the outside of the dropout faces, the more precise you have to be in having an equal length protruding beyond the locknuts at each end, to ensure the QR locking function is not impeded.
If you have to cut an axle to length, thread on an old locknut prior to cutting. That way, after the cut is made, unthreading the locknut cleans up any damaged threads. |
Are you looking for NOS Campy or just a replacement part?

Just a replacement. I think I found one.
