At the co-op

Decided to start a new thread for this. Bikes seen at the co-op are not really "in the wild" so don't qualify for that thread and I have not dragged these home so they don't qualify for the "saved" thread, but I want to show these finds off in case anyone wants one. Some have been there a while and may never budge or they may be gone tomorrow. Anyway, enjoy and add your local finds if you feel like it.

First is a Panasonic in their tiny 17" frame that was extremely distinctive back in the '80s. The shop sticker is from my old alma mater, Two Wheel Travel, now gone for many years. I might have assembled and/or sold this bike 35 years ago.

Next is another Panasonic, a Team Europe II. Never seen one in the metal.
Attachment 579496

Bad photo of a sentimental favorite, a Panasonic Tourist 5, the embodiment of the archetypal nice little bike. User friendly with the Shimano FFS and bulletproof wheels and full color-matched fenders. I gave my sister one of these with a baby seat on it when she had her kid. Neither of them got into biking, sadly. I like these bikes so much I really should save this one to prove a point but I do not need it. I do not. Really. Honest.
Attachment 579497

Specialized Sirrus, an early one with SunTour GPX on it. Close enough to my size that I'd be tempted if it were a lot cheaper.
Attachment 579498

Gitane mixte, a later one without the foil stickers. Just does not look right that way.
Attachment 579503

Saving the best for last, a little clown bike. Really should get this one, too, but the same rules apply.

That Panasonic Team Europe looks kind of small, but those are sweet bikes, I think on par with the DX5000, or top of the line. There was a Team Japan, America, and Europe, and I think the same bike except for graphics and name.

Hardrock23 09-07-17 04:27 PM

I love that little Panasonic Team Europe. It's for sale, right? Did you catch the price? lol

beicster 09-07-17 06:39 PM

I don't really know what a Sirrus is worth, but it is pretty amazing to think that you can get a fully functioning bike of decent quality for $200.

great thread idea. looking forward to some pics from around the states

IVARR 09-07-17 07:14 PM

i've never heard of a bike co op.
18 years of not riding has really messed me up ...

Not priced but it might be a very recent arrival. A lot of the stuff is not "ready" to be sold yet but I've bought it. I do not go weekly but can inquire next visit or give you the contact info for the place.

Doesn't have to be a co-op. I'd also like to see bikes in for repair at local shops. Anything interesting, whether it's available or not. Hey, we all love bikes, right?

Yeah contact info or the co-ops name would be great. Thanks!
I've started looking around for my next bike. Panasonic's definitely a brand I've been watching for.

Neat idea for a thread too. Good way to see a lot of different brands & types.

We have it rebuilt now, a 54-56cm frame IIRC, I can get a price if interested.

Viewing and participation not mandatory but lock up your wallet, just in case.

If that's a 56, I'd probably be interested in that Trek.

chainercygnus 09-08-17 08:07 AM

I'll be visiting my local bike co-op later today. I'll get pictures of anything that looks fun.

The title of this thread makes me think of the Sublime song Pawnshop. What is the name of that co-op? I have some stuff that I need to donate to one. The ones around Richmond seem to have funky hours.

thumpism 09-08-17 12:16 PM

Rag and Bones. Funky hours, indeed, but they are actually there during the few posted open hours each week. Could be worse than that.

Fine idea for an ongoing thread! :thumb:

Whot's this?!?!

You did not think the Schwinn XR-6 deserving of its very own portraiture? ;)

I'm surprised they still have it. But sadly, it's too small for me, and I already have a 957 in my size.

A 959 at a coop, wow!

fleslider 09-08-17 07:23 PM

if the 959 was a 60+ cm then it would be in my collection.
@Shrevvy I will get the specifics and update the thread.
@IVARR, yes tearcrop forks,its a aluminum frame/fork with a mix Campy 8 speed .

Everything i have read is that Peugeot was not in the US market since late 80's early 90's , so this one is a import.. either way I dig it!
