Bianchi ID help please
 

I'm looking for a 55-56cm celeste Bianchi frameset or complete. Let me know if you have one for sale.

Anyway this is on eBay and also on CL locally. The local ad once said it's Ishiwata but now doesn't and the eBay doesn't mention this. The eBay ad says it's a Specialissima but I doubt it and the CL ad doesn't claim it. And I can't find this model in any of the few catalogs I've found. Specialissimas seem to have chrome on the fork crown, chainstay, and sometimes more. And are Columbus tubed.

Any idea what this is? A Professional?

I am pretty sure it isn't a Specialissma. It doesn't really match up to anything I see in the catalogs. I am pretty ure the decals are replacements.
Very little seems to match up. The Ofmega headset and brakes tend to point to a Nuovo Alloro or similar level bike but the CampI Gran Sport crank would point to a slightly higher model. The rear derailleur looks like a 980 Gear which is a real
outlyer

I think the style of the seat stay cap and the eyelet on dropouts points to maybe a Nuovo Alloro frame but with lots of changes.

Near as I can tell it doesn't seem to be a Professional frameset, the stay caps appear different, at least as far as I can tell from the catalog.

I'm seeing mismatched and incomplete decals. It's definitely a frankenbike rebuild. Regarding the frame itself, the embossing in conjunction with the eyeleted dropouts, exposed brake nuts, single bottle bosses and cable routing running over the BB shell suggests a circa 1982-1984 mid-range frameset, such as that found on the Nuovo Racing. I don't see anything to support it being a Specialissima or a Professional. If you could obtain the serial number, that would go along way to determining the model and what is/isn't OEM.

As others noted, the decals are incorrect.

The easy way to distinguish a Japanese Bianchi is the bottom bracket threading (1.375" x 24TPI, as opposed to the Italian 36mm x 24TPI).

Great info. Indeed the early 80s midrange bikes like the Nuovo Racing/Alloro, etc. seem to match up for pics I've found.


I wouldn't mind a Ishiwata framed or mid-range (TreTubi) Bianchi but the changing and incorrect ads for this one has me a bit leary of this seller.

FWIW if your local to the seller the price doesn't seem bad. It is a TreTubi Columbus frame and has some CampI

Does anyone see something missing? I missed it the first three times I looked at it.

I think I'll take a look since it's local. For $250 or so it might be worth it.
