Anyone else having Flickr problems?

I spent a few minutes with some Windex and a rag on my Frejus this evening. I was heartened by the improvement, so naturally I was required to document the change. :) Unfortunately, Flickr has been acting weird this evening, so my uploads there didn't work well. Fortunately, just about every app on my phone auto-uploads my photos somewhere. (I'm joking, but it does seem that way at times). In this particular instance, Google Photos to the rescue.

Flickr right now.

How are you uploading? I'm having some trouble with Flickr too.

wrk101 09-14-17 08:41 AM

Click on picture, click on share photo, copy BBcode, past into photo icon. HTTP will be repeated, so delete the first one that shows up on the bike forum photo icon.

If there's a photo above the words I'm writing now, then Flickr works for me just fine this morning! As for the google photos you posted, I cannot see them at all. Just a white rectangle in a gray disk.

That's what I get if I copy the BBCode and paste directly into the reply window. If I use the photo icon, I get no picture. I have no idea why.http://www.bikeforums.net/<a href=ht...7255d13fcd.jpg

I just rely on Flickr's auto-upload feature. If it doesn't happen fast enough for my impatient self, I will sometimes fire up the Flickr app on my phone. (I don't know if that helps, but my impatient self thinks it might.)

Yesterday was a bit different. I took five photos. It uploaded four successfully, then got stuck on the fifth. When I looked in the app on my phone it said it was "finishing up", but never finished. Eventually, I saw a fifth photo, but it was from some previous upload (Campy hub locknuts vs the Frejus pix I was trying to upload). To make matters worse, at one point, I looked at my camera roll, and instead of the four pix plus on incorrect one, I got five grey thumbnails. I now see six thumbnails, the four originally uploaded, the locknut photo, and the true fifth one. That is one I believe I downloaded from Google Photos, then manually uploaded to Flickr.

Weird, but in the end I didn't lose anything.

Just an optimist, I guess!

But that's a different stamp. Different font. No border of stars around the edge. Hmm.

Yeah, I realized that. I'd be happy to take any photos or measurements you would like, even send you the saddle and let you ponder the problems it would present.

I just followed wrk101's instructions and absolutely nothing was uploaded. I then tried duo ruote's method and the BB code showed up, but no photo. I have had a great deal of trouble with Flickr. It works fine for a while, and then suddenly they change something and I need to learn a new method for uploading. This has happened about three times and I am getting tired of this crap.

...but the link you posted works. At least it works insofar as when I click on it I see a nice bicycle, hopefully the one you intended (Brazzo).
[edit] Also, mysteriously, here is what happens when I copy your BBCode and paste it in (directly; not with the photo icon):

Yes, the link works, but for some reason I am unable to post the photos themselves. I like Flickr for storing photos online, but I think I'm going to look for another option for posting photos because it just doesn't work for me. Any suggestions?

Due route's instructions work for me. It is what I do all the time to share my photos here. The link that shows up in your post is not a complete BB link. You must use the whole link presented in the BB code pasted directly into the reply box. Do not use any of the forum tools.

If the crank shows, then Flicker is OK at my place...

When you share a photo from Flickr, it gives you four choices:

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4349/...376f05da_z.jpg

It's important to understand that none of those choices link straight to the raw JPEG (or other format file). The choices are, in order:
  • Share - generates a link to the Flickr page you are looking at, suitable for use as a hyperlink in text.
  • Embed - generates a snippet of HTML you can drop into a web page, if you are creating content at that level:
    HTML Code:

    <a data-flickr-embed="true"  href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/49705339@N00/36841684490/in/dateposted-public/" title="share"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4349/36841684490_4e376f05da_z.jpg" width="555" height="346" alt="share"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
  • Email - brings up a little pane where you can compose an email to people containing (I presume) a link to that page.
  • BBCode - generates a snippet of BBCode suitable for inserting into forum posts like this
    https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4349/...376f05da_z.jpgshare by smontanaro, on Flickr

For posting here, you will almost always want the BBCode option.

You can extract the raw JPEG image URL from either the Embed or BBCode options. Here I've messed up the BBCode slightly so it doesn't actually do what it is supposed to do (raw HTML is never rendered), and highlighted the raw image URL buried in them.

BBCode:

[ url=https://flic.kr/p/Y8zgfJ][ img]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4349/36841684490_4e376f05da_z.jpg[ /img][ /url][ url=https://flic.kr/p/Y8zgfJ]share[ /url] by [ url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/49705339@N00/]smontanaro[ /url], on Flickr

Raw HTML:

<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/49705339@N00/36841684490/in/dateposted-public/" title="share"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4349/36841684490_4e376f05da_z.jpg" width="555" height="346" alt="share"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Put another way, don't bother with the shortcuts provided by Bike Forums when posting photos from Flickr; they are redundant. Just go to Flickr, copy the whole "BBCode" and paste it where you want the photo. Then hit the backspace button to delete everything after [/img], then go to the beginning of what you've pasted, and delete everything before [img]. Then you're done.

You don't need to delete anything. Just paste the BB code.

Oh, yes, that is true. But Flickr wants to put in a bunch of stuff I don't want to put in.

Fair enough.

mstateglfr 09-15-17 08:26 AM

The real issue is using flickr from a phone- the bbcode doesnt show up there. lame.

kroozer 09-15-17 08:50 AM

Skip, Lynn, Rudi, thanks very much for the tips, I got it working now.

The design Rudi was using is a wee bit older than your saddle.
