Does anyone know this freewheel? If so what tool is needed to remove this?

Might be an Atom, Normandy or Maillard. What kind of bike did it come off? What's the hub?

Can you get the axle nuts out of the way to see what's written on it?

It's etanche, which means sealed in french

It came off a peugeot sprint.

It says "Etanche" which is 'sealed' in French on one side.

Supposedly a Maillard.

As it says there the remover is no longer available so I suppose I gotta buy new wheels?

Don't see any notches, so looks like it comes off with a splined tool.
I do remember seeing splined tools at eBay for Maillard/Sachs FWs....

Looks like a 24 spline 31MM. Before I bought one I would take a wheel to the CO-OP and they would break it loose for me.

IIRC this body seemed to launch by Maillard 1973-74. Also used as Schwinn Approved.

Normandy brand freewheel in your photo link requires the use of the largest splined remover in my photo in order to be taken off the hub.

It's a mailard and takes a fairly rare large 31mm Mailard freewheel tool. I would say take it to a bike coop or established older bike shop to see if they have a tool to take it off. These were only used on the early 80's competition freewheels and early hilicos which were only made for a couple of years and are now obsolete.

The tool may no longer be in current production, but it's likely a decent bike shop has one and could remove the freewheel for you for a couple bucks. Or you could buy the old tool on e.g. eBay or Amazon:

Pretty certain. If you don't want to risk buying the wrong tool, find a bike shop with the right tool. Toronto is a big metropolitan area, so I suspect there are at least a couple shops that have been around long enough to have the proper tool. Once you find it, you can look for the proper tool on line if you want to buy one.
