Classic Vintage riding groups ?
 

Im wondering what areas have Classic Vintage riding groups ?
I have seen groups in SoCal areas.
I know many in the meetup groups do ride clasics.
I ride in a North Dallas meetup group that does many rides including a weekly Tuesday evening around White Rock lake. There are usually a few of us on steel classics, including me :)
Looking forward to hearing what areas are strong with the old school riders on steel.

There are a fair amount of older riders in my neck of the woods, but AFAIK I'm the only one who rides old bikes.

Im always surprised more dont get some classic steel that are steals today.
How do you compare, rank, and choose from your nice selection of 80s racers ?
Most of us that do cant stop at one, maybe those others dont want to get addicted ;)

I had a weekly vintage bike ride in Chicago for several years. Bibliobob and I would ride ride together and draw a few other riders on a regular basis. Now Bob lives in California and I live in Southern Illinois near St Louis.

I continue to ride vintage bikes while riding with local groups in Edwardsville Illinois. Another rider has a Colnago Master that she rides infrequently, she normally rides a new Cervelo. I'll infrequently use my modern carbon bikes if the weather is damp or windy or if I'm riding a technical gravel route.

I like using a different bike depending on the route, weather or my impulsive mood.

Ah boy, my favorite bike is always the one I'm riding! One of my bikes that I kind of surprisingly really, really like is my Merckx Century Reynolds 653. It really is a great rider for long distance riding and goes downhill like a jet fighter. Like BarrettsCV, my couple of modern bikes tend to be saved for the really hard rides or iffy weather. Otherwise it seems like I don't have to think too hard about which bike to ride, usually I'll get an itch for one in particular, pick it up and go. Today, it's the De Rosa!

Several people in the group I ride with have older bikes and they sometimes bring them on the group rides, but it isn't a planned event.

Whatever ride I'm in is a vintage ride. For me anyway... My bike club has a Vintage ride on Mondays during the Spring/Summer months. Unfortunately it's at 6pm and I've only ever made one ride, I have west coast clients and it's not easy to escape in time to make that one.

I wish my area had a visable vintage rider presence, but I get to feeling its me against the hoards here in NW Florida. Closest person I know of is Junkboyjude, over around Robertsdale, Al. Can’t find him regulaly as he works in Saudi Arabia, in the petroleum industry.

We’ve had a several vintage-y rides around the Pacific Northwest in the last few years, many documented in C&V threads, at least five that I can recall this year. The Portland bunch seem to have quite a few, and the Velo Cirque events held roughly twice/year there attract a few of us to make the drive down from Seattle. Bob Freeman, formerly of the late, great Elliott Bay Bicycles in Seattle, leads frequent vintage rides in the Puget Sound region, but he may be more closely linked to the Classic Rendezvous group.

I’ve really enjoyed the friendships that have expanded beyond just web acquaintances through these rides (and the beer drinking that follows!).

Would I have to dress up in goggles and a red bow tie?

I try to ride with the Pasadena vintage group, the first Sunday every month. They meet and leave from the Aquatic Center at the extreme south end of the Rose Bowl parking lot at 11 am. About 25 miles with a pizza or sandwich stop at about 15 miles, then mostly downhill home. We usually have 15-25 riders. I didn't take this picture but found myself in the center in the red stripe Legnano jersey. They are a very welcoming group, vintage bikes, vintage riders, everything in between is welcome too. I've heard that The Bicycle Stand shop in Long Beach has a vintage ride too, but have never ridden with them.

It really should be more wide-spread than it is. I really think its going to blossom, maybe in the next five to ten years, kind of the way that the Tweed Rides have established themselves (to varying degrees) in a lot of the major cities.
I don't know of any proper road rides with lightweight, vintage steel bicycles. Like I say, though, I think that's going to change.

V-CC New England Section (a blog that hasn't been updated in four years!)

We do monthly rides 9 or 10 months out of the year. It's a good reason to don the knickers and wool and pull out the old IGH machines.

Portland maybe the tops for vintage riding as its a great location and has Velo Cirque events :

I have visited Seattle a few times and loved my rides there.
BTW, I love Velo Cult | The Radavist velo cult bike shop and got my daccordi from them when still in San Diego.

My one and only velo is a classic vintage '84 Peugeot PH10LE that I bought new. I'm the only classic steel rider in my group.
There's a group that rides from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena the 1st Sunday of every month. They encourage riding nothing newer than 1985, but say to ride what ever you have. I think it's called Retro Velo. I need to check them out one of these days.

Santa Barbara is a great place for cycling.
I used to live there and did some rides this summer.
There are thousands of UCSB students riding classic steel and many are single speeds.
Would be a great place for classic meetups.

No such thing as a vintage group ride in Thunder Bay. I do, from time to time, hook up with a buddy and we go ride the Munger Trail in Minn. On two occasions, however, fellow forum members have invited me to join them on the Munger trail. Sadly, life prevented me from doing so but I am hoping to hook up with them in the future, if possible. The Munger trail, incidentally, is a really nice place to ride and I have done so several times.
