Dave Porter Bicycles?

I've known Dave Porter on the Internet for reasons completely unrelated to bicycles, going back at least 35 years. I just discovered he started building custom bike frames in 1972. Can anyone tell me anything about his bikes?

I have a chance to buy, for unknown price admittedly, a fully-built bike with Ultegra components and what he called "Columbus Niobium (5-sided) frame, CF fork". What the heck does that mean? I've been able to dig up that Niobuim is a high-strength tubing alloy which means a very light frame. But 5-sided? It appears his bikes are, or at least were, a bit radical and intended for performance. True?

Anyone have one, ridden one, seen one? I sure haven't!

Thanks,
Jim

If memory serves, Dave built the bikes that Kent Bostick set most, if not all, his records on.

There were a couple Porter road bikes hanging in the Bike Coop in Albuquerque with $4K price tags, but it's been a year since I was in that shop.

My daughter in law was given a Porter mountain bike - too small for me, so I haven't ridden one.

I would love to have one, and since it's a local product, I hope to score one someday
