Is this a Cannondale?
Hello everyone!
This is my first time writing on this forum, actually the first time writing on any forum! So, I bought this bike several years ago when I was in college, - I quickly needed a fast form of transportation so I bought a bike of Craigslist since it was all I could afford. The frame was clearly repainted, but he claimed that it was a Cannondale. Today, years later, I decided to strip all the paint off to start a small bike project for myself. I found the serial number and would like to ask you guys and gals if you could help me find the manufacturer and year of the frame. WHAT I DO KNOW: Track bike Steel frame The serial number: Letter 'G' followed by ten DIGITS in a single line on bottom bracket. The last three digits 199 (I have checked online to see if it has been reported as stolen, it has not.) Is it indeed a Cannondale frame? Thank you all for helping me find this out. |
Links to photos would help.
However, if it’s a steel frame, it’s not a Cannondale. Cannondale is known for well crafted aluminum frames since it’s founding after being a bike luggage manufacturer for several years and lately carbon fiber. Also, most of the time, serial numbers for Cannondales are on one of the the chain stays, I think the right or drive side. |
With the "G" I would guess it is a Giant built frame which could have had several companies name on it. Schwinn among them. Roger

If it's a track frame, could be a Globe Roll 1 by Specialized

Definitely not a Cannondale frame, no steel frames were produced by them at any point. Sounds as if someone did a hipster conversion to a steel tubing frame. Pics will help out with identifying it, as said above.

Hopefully the truly knowledgeable folks will give their thoughts about the frame’s brand. Be certain you show the drive side all lugs, if they are present, the bottom bracket on the sides and beneath, and holes for a head badge if any are present. If there is a rear derailleur hanger include that and all the drops as well.
Best of luck on identifying the frame, and welcome to the forum also. Bill |
