Wow, you're able to run a 14-34 freewheel with a Campy NR modified with the SOMA Rallye type cage? Looks very tidy.

Works brilliantly, It is a new freewheel with ramps and an 8 speed chain.

Bike shack. Still there, in fact the group ride I was on from Los Altos stopped in there Wednesday. Actually 1 is infinitely better on weekdays, but it still has a bunch of yahoos on it. Today's adventure.

This will be my third year in a row riding Eroica California. In 2016 I flew out from North Carolina, but since then I moved to Fresno and it's a 2.5 hour drive to get to Paso Robles.

Sadly, this will be the first year without Luciano Berruti. I'm the tall one.
Former Giro champion Andy Hampsten is on the right of the first pic.
Eroica founder Giancarlo Brocci is on the right in the second pic.

For those wondering what the heck we're talking about, out in the middle of Coastal San Mateo County (south of SF) on a wonderful road called Tunitas Creek, a family converted a small building next to the side of the road into a place for cyclists to refill water bottle, use tools, or buy some food, all on the honor system.

Today's task was getting the final preparations done to the bike transport (additional mount fitted and test load bikes) and then remove non-period conveniences from the bikes, not the transport. Below is the transport (1970 Mercedes 280S) with my four bikes loaded:

Bikes are 1937 Raleigh Record Ace, 1958 Hetchins Magnum Bonum, 1973 Speedwell Titalite & 1982 Mercian Vincitore

My ride bike will either be:

Hetchins with Sturmey Archer FM hub with 24T cog and 42T Charter Lea chain ring. Low in the SA will give me roughly a 36T rear.

My other bike which I have rode in the Texas hill country is the Mercian. It is setup with a 32-14 five speed rear and a triple crankset with the small ring being a 36T.

I"M BACK.
MRI indicates calcium deposit blah blah blah .... and no rotator cuff tear.
I can't damage it any more by riding, so I will not be seeking a refund, and my Dinner ticket is no for sale or trade. As I was feeling sorry for my self all week (and in quite a bit of pain) I did not do my final longish shake down cruise on the Medici or the Camperization of my Subaru Forester so this week I will be busy having FUN.

Good to hear!

Old school, have doc give you a shot, some pain killers, drink heavily on the ride...

Heh, good to have you back. If you ride your Medici like that in the upside down picture, you'll be in for all sorts of spills and thrills! Ok, off the injured reserve!!

Thank you Joe. Took her for her final big ride today, using toe clips and straps for the the first time since the late eighties. Didn't fall over once. Definitely need more alcohol to mask the pain though. https://www.strava.com/activities/1489929363

Hi Johnny, great to have you join up, got a pic of the Look? Hope your knee will hold up. Do you have any kind of compression sleeve, kneecap stabilizer, or brace to use while riding? I once considered riding with my articulated brace when my ACL got stretched and the knee became a bit wobbly. Luckily, cycling doesn't seem to bother it, I guess due to good technique keeping my knee stable and its since gotten much better. Tennis, on the other hand, I use the brace and watch the shots go by that I used to chase down. No need to risk a more serious knee injury.

Hope to see you there!

Bart

Does anyone have the Bike Forums stickers ready? And thanks to Gugie and Wes (Eroica Organizer), we will have the Luciano Berutti / Jon Williams memorial armbands available at the Eroica table and being passed out by BF and CR volunteers, $10 or more donation suggested. Proceeds and profits donated to SLO Hospice as well.

See this thread if you haven't already:

Just finished the build... despite being a more or less a camera geek I dont take many pictures and ones I take never process to the dismay of my better half. Gluing tubs now and will install in the next 2 days. Once the glue dries I will atleast take an iphone pic.

Cycling generally does not tax my knee either... but day to day life does and it effects my cycling from time to time. ACL has been replaced a few years ago, but my lack of meniscus is the main issue now.

Attended last year and will be attending again this year. I'm looking forward to meeting some more of you! I don't post here too often, but I do read the forums regularly and it's always nice to put a face to the name.

I'll likely end up riding the Viking like I did last year, but there's a small chance I may get the needed parts together to build up a mid 70's Motobecane LeChampion frame I picked up not too long ago. If I end up on the Viking I'm still planning on running the same 46-28T low gear, so I'll suffer through a few of the steeper sections, but that seems to be the point

Weather looks good for Sunday: Sunny, 72 degrees. However, I'd like to request less wind and not the 10-20mph.
