2018 Eroica California RV trip from San Jose, CA

Update:

I'm using post #1 on this thread as an update of who all's coming - see below

I've discovered that being a Crapmaster doesn't include Time Lord privileges and besides, my reign will be soon over. So, rather than try and ride in last year's Eroica California, let's see about the 2018 edition

I'm signed up. I bought the jersey. I reserved a seat at the dinner of heros. I still need to build up my proper Eroica bike, but I'm working on it, and you know how these things usually get done at the last minute.

So here's the rough itinerary:

Friday, April 13 RV leaves San Jose sometime in the afternoon for Paso Robles. I'll get an RV site, there are several in the area
Saturday, April 14 Eroica Concours, dinner. For those wanting, a pre-ride warm up.
Sunday, April 15 The Ride
Monday, April 16 Drive back to San Jose

I chose San Jose as the gathering spot since there's a major airport there for those flying in. If you prefer flying in to Oakland or San Francisco, there's public transport down to San Jose. I'll round up all of those coming in. Some have said they'd just drive to San Jose and meet up there. For local Bay Area folks who want to do this, of course it's simple enough to hook up. Plane flights are pretty cheap right now if you book ahead.

An RV gives the opportunity for an epic road trip to share veloship. I'm looking at RV units that sleep up to 8.

Shared costs all around. Now that it's getting to be time to put up or shut up, I'm looking for names of those ready and willing to put up with me for 4 days.

Here's a short list of those that have expressed interested (nothing like a public throw under the bus to arouse Eroicers): @gugie IN
@Andy_K IN
@n_lerner (I think he gave me the RV idea in the first place) IN
@Spaghetti Legs IN

Other mentionables:
@Kabuki12 has his own RV, drives up from Ventura, CA early.
@mech986 coming up from SoCal
@rccardr is driving down from San Jose, staying at the Adelaide Inn @northbend staying at the Adelaide Inn

Giving this serious thought. I have missed the cutoff for day off requests for work and the April schedule isn't out yet (the schedule black hole), so I'll have to remain tentative on this for now.

So is that Monday, April 6 2020? I'm all for a post-ride recovery period, but this seems excessive.

Gotta stop posting before the coffee sinks in.

Good thing I've got editors.

Fixed.

Others who might be there:
@Kabuki12 has his own RV, drives up from Ventura, CA early. I think it would be great to coordinate plans! Is it the Vines RV Park you've stayed at?
Yes, The Vines . It is on Welsona rd. or something like that . they are pretty good rates for an upper crust park. I booked way early but there should still be sites. Try not to get the row closest to the Freeway as it is a bit noisier. Always other Eroica people there . It would be great to have a fireside or something, sort of a get to know one another thing maybe a ride in together Saturday for the event? Joe

I'm flying in to San Jose but will be driving down to PR myself and staying at the Adelaide Inn. Not an RV guy but happy to provide a little backy-forthy for dinner on Friday or Saturday.

PS: The Hero Dinner is worth every penny!

Be sure the Sign and submit 2017 taxes in the to do list, or at least an extension.
Taxes have kept me away before.

I have made the swap meet once.

Gugie, I was goosing your thread because I will be going to Eroica California but I'm coming up from SoCal LA / Orange County area on Thursday, so can't be part of the posse but will be there as a CR / BF representative. Sorry if it seemed otherwise.

Hope to meet all of you there on Sunday. I'm going on the 40 mile ride so far, which are you guys signed up for?

Joe (my mom had a friend we called Joe Kabuki), do you have pics of your 73 Windsor Profesional? You have a number of bike choices, which do you intend to bring up or ride?

You got a hot tub in that RV?

It would be best if it is like some kind of ... hot tub time machine.

Coastal's the Hot Poop. You get all three of the tough climbs- Kiler Canyon, Cedar Mountain, and Santa Rita- plus the 22 miles along the coast, and most of the good food. Miss out on the french fries in olive oil, but not sure that's worth another 40 miles...

The beer on the Cayucos Pier tastes really good with those forty miles behind you and you are more "nearly" done when you head back east to Paso Robles.

I am not doing Eroica (next year ) but will buy the first round or more of beer before you guys get on the road. I also have a eroica qualified bike I would loan if people were flying in and needed one...... 84 torpado, 58 cm

one beer option is where @gugie and I have tipped a pint before Hapa's Brewing Company

You should be able to upload your pics directly from your computer, just use the square yellow window with mountain (insert image) button in the reply window control panel.
