Correct.

Bicycles as an investment is absolutely ludicrous. If you are worried about getting your money out of just about everything, you probably shouldn't be doing that thing.

But then again, bulimia does let you get your money out of food, twice.

And if you want to collect anything, it is by definition collectible.

I would imagine keeping a high end bike new in box would be collectible. Especially the brands that manufactures won't sell without being built.

Yes! And I think the key to being a good collector is to be damn certain you don't plan to make any money at it. That way you agree with yourself to do a lot of financially stupid things, but in the end you could have a really interesting collection.

I think for a modern bike to be collectable in the future, it would have to capture the zeitgeist of bicycling in it's time. It would have to be devoid of any elegance, symmetry or understatement. It should be a cacophony of awkward, unbalanced lines in garish colors. Every possible surface should scream something at you. You should never be left wondering what company made the components. It should be something that brings future onlookers back to the early 21st century no matter how much it assaults their senses.
