Here is the box!

My take and my additions will be finalized tomorrow, and the box should go out either tomorrow, Saturday, or Monday. Happy Box [o crap] ing Day!

They looked like two pieces of blue plastic hose, like you might buy at Harbor Freight for one of their small water transfer pumps. They were so old, I was afraid to try them, because they might split apart when I tried to stretch them over a pedal. Still interesting if you like to collect old, new-in-package stuff.

Here are some pictures of the Barefoot Friends. Since the cat's out of the bag about these anyhow I don't think I'm disobeying any rules by posting this?

Here's my take. Don't worry, the box is still just as heavy.

And the box will be on its way Monday when the Cambridge post office opens. Still within five working days, but not the quickest turnaround because Christmas. I'll try to do better next time.

Thanks for this great opportunity. I really love that this is a thing. My younger colleagues kind of can't believe this is actually a thing!

You are fine! I threw those in BTW. I mainly just thought they were interesting. I would never use them, but I guess that is implied since I put them in the box...

Rate increase

I was just searching the web and found that the large flat rate box will be $21.10 effective Jan 26.

So glad I got in under the cutoff! Geez USPS, a cyclist just can't catch a break.

I think heard the cost increase was largely due to a mysterious box weighing around 25-30 lbs and being sent around repeatedly....

I heard the same story but figured it was an urban legend - or fake news

I think first rate went up not long ago. Rate increases on this go-round seem to be limited to Priority Mail.

https://about.usps.com/newsroom/nati...s-for-2020.htm

I can't say I begrudge them the rate increase. At the bottom of that page it reads, "The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations." I believe despite receiving no tax subsidy they are still required to ship everywhere in the US, and do it in the face of competition from UPS, FedEx and Amazon, who aren't so constrained. (Please correct me if I'm wrong on either count.)

Got right to it, so here's the take. One "built with genuine BOC parts" sticker not pictured.

The box is quite full, so I also removed a few of the crappiest items to make room. They will be canned unless there is great protest, and/or need for them.

I should get it sent out tomorrow.

That Simplex FD, unless the clamp is completely borked, can get a replacement bolt in the back of the cage and be used on a triple if I am not mistaken. Non-delrin Simplex FD's are somewhat hard to find...

It was half-delrin and there was a tiny crack in the clamp hinge if I'm not mistaken.
Ah yes, you can actually see it in that photo.

Otherwise I'd have taken it!!

Yeah, that crack was the reason for pulling it from the box.

Yeah, that’s why I asked about the clamp - it did look like a possible crack there. Good call.

I put in the Cane Creeks a couple of weeks ago, along with the Campy brake calipers. Since they have been claimed I doubt there will be repercussions about revealing the source of those. Smiles, MH
