I am assuming everyone wants to be added back to the end of the list once they have sent off the box to the next person in line. If you want to be taken off for a while or need to be moved down the list as you won't be available when the box is due to come to you, please let me know. Just want to avoid any hiccups in the process. Everyone has done a great job so far which makes my job easy! Thanks everyone!!

Thanks for the auto relist,Crapmaster! I'll be out of town sometime mid-June for a few days so if I think the box will be back to me that week, I'll let you know in advance if I need to be moved down a bit.
Thanks!

In addition to what @fleslider said, I suspect it's more fun to give and get the sort of stuff you like, especially given the ever-increasing postage rates.

The list might grow rapidly that way, and then the time it takes for it to rotate back to a given person could be very long.

I agree with noglider's concern here, and while I've participated once, my preference is that it be an opt-in rather than opt-out process, since I'd have to pay the $20 postage each go-round. Just my $.02... Your box, your rules...

Someone on eBay seems to have appropriated the BoC peek-a-boo teaser technique:

There are turkey levers and reflectors right on the top. That's actually a true BoC, unlike our hyperbolic BoC.

BoC landed today, tipping the scales at a svelte 25.25 pounds:

I made a quick pass over the contents sorting into three categories: crap for me, crap for the box, and crap for the co-op or the metal scrappers to make room for the further crap I will add to the box. Some work will be necessary, including better packing and a bit of metalsmithing on the inner box to increase its capacity slightly. There is no way everything I intend to ship out will fit as it stands. Probably won't get around to finishing the job until the weekend. Besides, one piece of crap from the box is currently soaking in Evapo-Rust to turn it into better crap. That will take a day at least.

I will point out a brake setup I'd never seen before:

When properly set up, I'm sure it will provide a great deal of stopping power. Looks like cabling would be a b*tch though, so I left it in the box for someone more mechanically inclined than I.

Finally, one small suggestion. Let's leave out the department store bike reflectors and associated brackets. If some one wants any, drop me a note. I have a ton. They just take up space and are unlikely to trigger any oohs and ahhs from box recipients.

Good idea to bring stuff from the box to the coop. My nearest coop isn't near, though. I guess I should start a box for them and wait until it's worth the trip.

Agreed. I too usually purge about 10% of the contents to either scrap or donate to the co-op, and even they turn down some of it. A reminder that rule 12 is:
"12. Please, no completely worthless, borked crap."

The spirit of the B'oC is to include decent parts that you don't currently have a use for, and with rising postage costs it's a good idea to leave out stuff you can't really imagine anybody using.

Yes, but... I've personally benefitted from BoC items such as mangled RD's (salvaged a pulley, mounting pivot bolt, and cable adjuster), bent brake calipers (salvaged the QR) etc. We should get a "small parts" sub-box in there like some thoughtful bloke added at some point. All the tiny, usable pieces salvaged from the borked crap went in there before it was tossed.

I'm not suggesting we toss out potentially useful crap. Generic reflectors and brackets which come on every bike have essentially nothing to offer and just take up space in the box, keeping it from holding the mangled derailleurs and other more unique crap which can be the source of parts for restoration, proprietary screws, pulleys, springs and such. I will try to put in a little box with all the loose bits which were floating around the bottom of the box.

Argh! I just composed a nice long response about the box, but the stupid, stupid website failed to either preserve my content when I tried to "go advanced" or to apparently auto-save the content. Curse you PHP!!!
