There are a few genuine bike-snobs in PDX, but most riders here are pretty utilitarian (I sorta straddle both camps: I collect & restore as well as commute). That said, I can sit in front of my local coffee shop at lunchtime & see as much custom steel roll by in half an hour as I would at the NAHBS.
We do have a comparatively huge local bike industry (and I do mean that to include CL sellers); basically, we have access to more choices; but PDX isn't some kind of 'bike-nirvana' by any means; we're very much a work in progress: three steps forward & two steps back.
I often wonder as to the identity of PB-Bikes; it may be an individual, but I also know that our CityBikes Co-op will sell their high end parts for max dollar value on ePay. They need the cash & they shouldn't compete with prices on CL. It's a worthy shop, but still one where it's good to 'know a guy' as well as know your parts: it's where you go for all those tiny Campy/SunTour/Sachs-Huret fiddly-bits.

CityBikes is a good (great, actually) source of parts. So is CCC on Alberta. There's a place on NE 2nd I recently learned of that looks coop-y and good too.
CityBikes has a nice rod brake Raleigh for sale. Not dirt cheap or anything.

I don't know if that's the same bike. I never looked too closely at the DL-1 ish bike at the Annex.
Yes, BikeFarm is the place on 2nd. I went there for the first time, for BikeCraft. Looked really cool and I mean to go back. Maybe I'll drop by there this weekend to see if they have anything for the Sports.

Hi, slight momentary hijack here as I am on a mission to call on all PDX members I see to join in at Velocult on Sat. the 24th of Feb. @jyl does an excellent job of putting these on the calendar and we always have a good time. Please bring your Toei so we can see one in person, pretty please? Now back to our regular programming.

PB Scours the earth for those NOS parts so he charges for it. It is his business it does not matter if you agree to his business plan but if you want NOS anything you are going to pay top dollar. 2000 transactions with one negative must be a great seller also....

I've never bought anything from him on ePay; my interactions with him were set up via our local CL, and conducted face-to-face in a coffee shop, here in NW Portland. Again, nice guy; always on the up & up with me, and his prices were quite fair.

jyl, you do need to get out some more!, LOL!, especially when I've been reading Nola's blog for several years, and I'm from Oklahoma City, can't get more regressive than here, steel frames, French parts, not in these parts! Nola knows more than pretty much all the cycling community about classic bikes.
