I suspect it's a side benefit of the mountain bike revolution. People started riding in crappy conditions (I read somewhere that the Repack Riders got their name from having to repack their bearings on a more-or-less daily basis), so seals began to be really useful to extend the life of bearings and increase maintenance intervals. Early mountain bikes used 1-inch threaded headsets, which work perfectly well on road bikes.
I bought a SunTour Superbe headset for my not-quite-full-Superbe Griffon, but I could never get it adjusted properly (out-of-spec? incompetent mechanic?). I replaced it with one of these Specialized seal-equipped headsets and have experienced no issues.

Looking for a 40 hole rear hub. Prefer cassette but can do a freewheel hub. I have some NOS rims to build up
Probably cash would be best but have some trading stuff, just need to know what you need.

Want 52t Maxy chainring/ring+arm
I'm building a 24" wheel bike, have a Maxy with the replaceable large ring - but it's only 45t (small is 40).
So I'm looking for a BIG big with good teeth, I can use a swaged-ring+arm, even one with a bad square, as I'll just cut the ring out out.

Looking for a set of Super Champion model 58 rims in very good or better condition. 32h, 700c, clincher. Hubs not needed.
I would consider Weinmann Concaves in the same configuration/condition.
Thx!

They are very handsome hubs. I like the "bacon slicer" look, but it seems to almost always to appear in track hub form, which doesn't do me much good.

I hope I can find a match. I like the look a lot. I've always liked the look of these and while there doesn't seem to be a lot written out there, they do seem like they work well. This will go on my 3Rensho Sequoia if the rear pans out which works out as that's a slow-burner project for the time being.

I'm contemplating putting up my hack-job painted Miayata OneThousand up for sale. It's a 56cm and presently set up as a kind of foul weather 2-speed kick pack let's go ride everywhere upright ish .... super something. (but not as super a the new SKLAR! SuperSomething!)
I'm not looking to trade though, more of a de-stable-ize the herd, so I can get a properly sized RoadUNO next spring.

I would be looking at 54cm or a tad smaller. I'm not looking to buy, I would just take an opportunity to trade for something I can ride.
Here's a pic, bike dry stock

Not exactly a vintage thing, but I figured you all would be the folks to ask.
I recently put a pair of Gravelkings on my touring bike that I had squirreled away for when the Paselas finally wore out. With less than 100 miles on them, I ran over a piece of metal and trashed one. As it turns out, this color (‘Bordeaux”) was a limited edition and is no longer available anywhere that I can find. Live and learn, I guess…
So anyway, would anyone have one of these in this color laying around that they’d be willing to part with? I’m looking for a 700x35 slick. Top dollar or I have stuff to trade. Otherwise, I’ll be buying two new tires.
Thanks!

If you are still looking, I might be able to help. I make my own chainrings -- well, not all of them, but when I need something rare to unavailable, I CNC it. If you can tell me the bolt pattern, tooth count, chain pitch, preferred material, and the required interior clearance, I can cut one for you.

In search of a Chater Lea headclip and top nut (no really a nut, but not sure what to call it. My understanding is most of these are pre-war but they were used until the 50’s.

ISO 48t 110 BCD shark tooth ring
I’m looking for a silver 48t 110 BCD shark tooth ring you want to get rid of. Not a good one, a bad one you want to let someone up-cycle into a chain guard. I have bits to trade, but if it’s hanging around (literally) and you’re about to throw it out and you want someone to pay for shipping to get rid of it for you, I’m your guy!
Here’s my process:
