just start up a new thread

but to quickly answer your question, a 1” (25.4 mm) threaded steerer tube takes a 7/8” (22.2 mm) quill stem. 1” is the outside diameter where the headset goes, 7/8” is the inside diameter where the quill goes.

See here for more glorious info: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-headsets.html

Got it. It just helps to be specific in exactly which measurements you're referring to. In your initial post you said you purchased stem/bars that didn't fit and then you mentioned 21.8 but what does that refer to or are you maybe guessing? Were the purchased bars too small or too big? It's likely still a 1" headset and as mountaindave suggests the ID is usually 22.2. If it's not, your bike may conform to the mid 80's bmx 21.15 stem standard. The inside diameter of the steerer is needed to move forward. Also a 1 1/1/8" headset comes from a later generation of bike.

I mentioned the adapters and stem alternatives only as a next step solution to getting a 21.15 stemmed mtn bike on the road if you can't find the bullmoose unit you want. They're not common.

I sounds like you need 0.833" (21.1mm) bullmoose bars. I've actually got some out in my shed, but they're specific to Raleigh MTBs (they have a Raleigh logo on them).

You can get an idea from this pic I've stolen from the interwebs:

Interested in getting a few Celeste items to go with my Bianchi Axis. Anyone have some bar tape or bottle cages they want to trade?

Thanks for all considerations!

Are you ok with cork bar tape? I bought some a while back but never installed it. Yours for cost of shipping.

Did you ever find a skewer? I have a whole set of hubs I could send you!

So . . . this is probably a long shot, but what the heck. I'm looking for an od Raleigh Carlton or Lenton frameset that I can build up into a 3-speed cruiser for some of the local events around here. I need something in the 58cm range. For trade, I have a pretty decent 1985 Gazelle Champion Mondial AB frameset at 60cm (59 c-t-c if I recall correctly). It's full 531 and has served me well for the past ten years. Check the pics, and let me know if you have anything that might work for me. Thanks!

ISO: Nice 28 hole 7s or 8s Shimano rear hub. 600 or Deore or something. Uniglide or Hyperglide is fine, as I have a 7s HG freehub to swap in. Probably not DA, as I don't know if freehubs I have are compatible.

I have much to trade. Let me know what you're looking for.

That will work fine. Little lighter then the Celeste on there but fine for now. Must change it as the red tape is growing on me and I have red accessories too. Will really enjoy this bike when my wrist heals!

Thanks man! Law

How about a complete Raleigh Lenton Sports, 1951, in somewhat less than pristine condition? 23" frame, original paint... nicely made plain gauge 531 frame made as a three speed and still a three speed.

ISO: 170 left crank arm that looks like this. Campy, SR, Sugino, Sakae, Nervar. What have you got? I have a few orphan rights that need lefts, and as long as the looks are in the ballpark, I'm good.

Ironically, I just pulled out the crank box and kept one of those arms (I tossed the beater and oddball crap). I'm not sure which one, but I'm fairly certain it's fluted, Japanese, and 170mm. Unfortunately, I'm out of town for a bit, so can't get to the box. Can you PM me in a week or so?

Campy SL pedal will have black anodized pedal cages, no chrome or natural aluminum.

ISO Exage(-ish) aero road brake levers, ca. 1990. Prefer with hoods, flexible wrt hood color. Prefer for the kind that have a release button or the like on the lever, but not a show-stopper.

I've got lots of stuff, mostly entry- or mid-grade, mix of mtn, hybrid, road. Good chance I have something you could use (including cash....).

I have an orphan right side Exage lever, silver with a black hood. I realize 1 lever's pretty useless, but It's yours for the cost of shipping.

I've got a Dura Ace 7410 bottom bracket that's 68mm, I need the 70mm Italian version.

I also would like a Selle Italia Flite saddle, I've got a Vetta suede one or even a San Marcos Rolls.
