Aside from condition can you see it?

Left off the "P" on the left one :)

Actually, it seems the stamp is rotated a little off kilter on the left locknut.

No to both....

gugie 02-20-18 05:08 PM

My answer is no.

I am correct.

Drillium Dude 02-20-18 05:08 PM

The perspective makes it difficult to make out any real issues beyond the left stamping being off-center by a little bit (in relation to the flats). Flats don't match? Center is drilled off-center on the one on the right - or is it missing its threads? I'm just guessing out loud.

Stamping dies are flat ended on left, v shaped on right.

Yep. Fonts are different.

Cyclist0108 02-20-18 06:11 PM

Which one is the obvious forgery?

I have a small pile of lock nuts and there're differences ...I do have a match to the
right lock nut

I'll line them all up and post a pic tomorrow.

Cyclist0108 02-20-18 06:26 PM

I also was going to guess that "Cam" was a pun on the shape of the washer, but then decided it didn't faithfully translate into Italian.

FBOATSB 02-20-18 06:29 PM

Before all accolades start pouring in, it helps to have a 23" flat screen zoomed up to 170% at all times.

altenwrencher 02-20-18 06:40 PM

The dies are different. The fonts are different, especially the 7s. The one on the left appears in many respects a better piece of metalwork, and gets my vote as the real Campagnolo... or the better of two fakes.

Bikerider007 02-20-18 07:18 PM

7.3 and 7-3? Italian or English? Or am I overanalyzing things once again.

Spaghetti Legs 02-20-18 08:54 PM

I think they are different size flats, i.e., one is 13mm the other 14 mm

crank_addict 02-20-18 09:07 PM

I'd toss it into the box of junk thingamajings

Kontact 02-20-18 09:10 PM

Looks like normal year to year production variations.

Kinda what I was thinking. Did Campy have more than one set of letter stamping dies in their factory (factories) in 1973?

My guess would be "probably." Including sets going back to the 1930s or so? Probably

RiddleOfSteel 02-21-18 01:07 AM

The real question is, does it help the ride quality???

davester 02-21-18 01:34 AM

The one made with the flat-ended die has less material within the lettering so is lighter. A significant technical advancement.

There's a fair difference in the stamping line-weight(?), the one on the left has fatter lettering.

Wileyone 02-21-18 06:43 AM

The one on the Right is lighter.

I did a poor man's check with a ruler, they look pretty much the same. Maybe a slight parallax from some camera angle causes the appearance of different size flats. Since they are both marked "73" they should be the same year's production, I would think.:foo:
