My 1992 GT Outpost Project
This is going to take awhile to finish so I'll update it's progress as I go along.
Came up with this idea to experiment with my first dropbar conversion when I was trying to figure out what to do with a freebie pair of Bianchi fenders in celeste color. I had a GT frame laying around so I put two and two together and came up with this idea.
I worked on the freebie frameset first. Used some paint stripper to remove what I could. Then I sanded it a bit. Primered. Then three coats of black. Bought a used pair of SKS fenders just for the brackets to transfer on to the Bianchi fenders. Fit is perfect. At the same time I ordered some bar tape in celeste color. Today after almost a month of paint curing, I polished the frame and fork. Then applied the GT decals I ordered from an EBay seller. I also raided my off-at-college daughter's nail polish stash and found a pretty good match to Celeste. That I used to paint the GT logo at the rear of the top tube.
Test fitted a few parts to see how it would look. And that's where it stands as of today. Future plans are a 1x drivetrain and to gather all the other needed parts together. Also when our weather gets back to normal, painted parts will be clear coated. Keep in mind this is a budget build, all from my parts bins. So minimal spending only.
On to the pictures:

Very nice! That'll look real good with those fenders. A very inspired build!
I had a freebie trashed GT Tequesta that I stripped, painted, and put some freebie stache bars on. I thought it was rad. It was a real parts-bin build, I think the only thing I bought new was the cable hanger and the u-brake

Thanks. All good with the race. The picture makes it looks worse than it is. Budget build=do with what I have with the least effort. This will be bike #13 or 14 in the herd so it's not like it's going to be ridden much. lol It's a fun experiment for me.

Do you prefer any brand of paint stripper for use on bikes? I see nitromor ...sp? Used quite a bit but some say new formulation is not as good as older.
Gonna be trying my hand at this soon and always looking for tips.
Thanks

I don't strip paint much but over the years I've only used one brand that I find in my local hardware. The Klean-Strip brand. It's worked good on my auto work and bike work as well as some die-cast cars.

Subscribed! That's looking awesome! I love seeing these kinds of custom builds even more than the catalog correct type rebuilds. I'm really digging the color choices on this too. Keep up the good work. It's looking great!

The blue-on-black color scheme is beautiful.
