Saturday, I hit a thrift store on the way out of Pueblo, on the way up to Colorado Springs. There was a beautiful green Ron Cooper there, with a lot of Campagnolo, and 1st gen Cyclone derailleurs, for $50!!! I couldn't figure a good way to grab it, as I was riding the Cannondale, with no good place to stash it. 😭
So, did a forum member here score? It was windy as heck here, gusting close to 60 mph, so my trip took considerably longer than planned, hence the slow starting thread. 😉

I always buy and hold..sorry about your loss.

I don't know anyone here, lol, just touring, so the best I could have done was ship it home, which gets spendy quick, or strip it. I couldn't bring myself to do that. 😲 It was gone in half an hour, so someone was happy, at least. 😎

Buy it, ride to pawn shop, pawn one of your bikes, then come back and get it!

Great pic. 👍 Believe me, I thought about picking parts, but didn't really "need" anything. If it had been a touring frame, I probably would have swapped over. It was very light for steel, probably full Reynolds 531.

Alternately, take the extra bike to a bike shop and request some random repair, like "the brakes squeak!" That'll buy you at least a week of free storage, more likely a month or two.

Be careful on doing that with a 50 year old thriftstore special bike.

You'll likely end up with new pads, bearings, cones, grease, seat, bar tape, tires, tubes, rim tape, conversion from sewups to clinchers, spit shine, new bottle cages, throw away those suicide bar stems... etc.

And your $50 Thriftstore Special will come back to you as a $1000 bicycle!!!

Don't know why I didn't see this before. Why is your water bottle upside down? Or was it a "just git 'er in there" kind of thing? :) This brings me to an interesting idea. Has anyone posted a "find what's wrong with this bike" thread? Probably already been done but maybe the idea needs a refresh?

I believe every photo posted is a find what's wrong with the bike thread:lol: but that does sound like a fun idea. I have not seen if there is one.

Maybe we don't see the clear hose going to the chain... it's an oiler!!

I like this idea. You could fill the bottle with Tri-Flow, and keep the chain, derailleur pulleys, and cogs clean, just by riding. 😁

This is what I used to do when it was below freezing. Water freezes from the top, you can still drink some if you put the bottle upside down!

Ah, cool trick. Will keep this in mind but might not get to test it until next winter. Spring is a comin'! :)
