Dumb question of the day-90's brake parts?

They were in a box for cable ferrules.


Two sizes of the metal, the little black things are rubber.

Well one lot are star nuts to go in a steerer tube.... 1" and 1 1/8"

The little rubber things are cable ferrule seals. Shimano and probably others made cable ferrules with a little extended piece, those little seals slid over that and kept crud out.
