Crankset compatibility question...
Hey Everyone,
It's been several years since I've had to futz around with anything like this; I'm not sure if it's really do-able, but I thought I'd run it up the flagpole to see if anyone saluted it... I'm thinking of maybe pairing an older Shimano double crankset (52/42; from the '70s) with an otherwise new-ish (mid-'90s) HG 6 (maybe 7) speed drivetrain & manual shifters (either DT or Bar-end; I haven't decided). However, I can't remember if the thickness of the older chainrings or the ring spacing on the older crank would present an issue with the newer chain. Any thoughts? :foo: |
6/7-speed? Should be fine.

Thanks; that's what I seem to remember, but I figured I'd double check that against the collected wisdom of the forum, just to be sure.
I don't want to jinx it, so I'm not going to add anything more than a very interesting crank turned up here at a very interesting price; I've been after one of these for some time. I've called; I've confirmed it: it's genuine; but that said, I've never dealt with a crankset from that period, so I wasn't sure if I could dovetail it into the drivetrain I had in mind. |
No issues.
