Drops gipiemme

Welcome to the forums. A 26.2mm post is quite small, indicative of a ligthweight hi-tensile steel. Given the the Gipiemme dropouts it's tempting to say a Rizzato brand using their Tullio tubeset but that may be premature. The serial number may provide a clue.

Judging by the dropouts would expect the top tube and down tube braze-ons to be post-manufacture additions. ----- |

Thank you. Yes, the top tube (upper tube) we would expect to exhibit an outside diameter of 25.4mm. The down and seat tubes (lower tubes) we would expect to show a diameter of 28.6mm. --- Just realized, we have not as yet heard from [MENTION=383399]MauriceMoss[/MENTION] on this mystery. ;) ----- |

Thank you for these additional pictures. The "57" is likely a reference to the frame size in cms - measuring center to top in this case. In addition to the serial number there appears to be a third number of "86." [MENTION=20650]T-Mar[/MENTION] may well recognise this serial number format. Wonder if it could indicate a frame made in February of 1976? ----- |
The serial number format is consistent with Rizzato product, though they were typically stamped on the seat tube. As stated in post #2, a 26.2mm post is also consistent with Rizzato's Tullio tubeset. I'm aware of some Asian manufacturers who used this format but given the Gipiemme dropouts, an Italian (or at least European) source is far more probable.

The model size number 57 on the BB and simple long point lugs would match a early 80's Italian build. This could likely be confirmed by the BB width and threading.
