Cabling question

ok, I have two bikes that I need to recable. one is mid seventies Campy NR, and the other is mid 80's campy SR (w/modolo brakes & dt shift levers). My question is, when recabling, will the modern campy cable sets work ok, or are the ferrules & bushings not compatible with the vintage equipment.

A side question is if I don't go with campy cables (for whatever reason) what cables would you recommend?

Both of these bikes are bikes that I'll ride, so I'm not building garage queens, but I just want to restore them to where they were when they were new.

Thanks,
Steve

Are you planning on re-using the cable housings/ferrules? I would. While the inners are basically the same, the outer housings/ferrules are different and the main issue will be that the new ones won't sit as well as the old stuff because the ferrules don't have the chamfered ends of the originals.

It's important to me to have the right parts for the job. I just spent around $25 for 10 of those ferrules so that I can complete my next two builds.

was planning on new cable housing as well.. the old looks more or less ok..but the new housing ...looks new.. I was considering using the old ferrules but wasn't sure if they' d fit the new cable housing. So, the actual cables (new) will still work, the question is do I retain the old housing and ferrules, or if I reuse the old ferrules will they work with new housing? Because the new ferrules wont fit/seat properly, correct?

I guess the big auction site is the place for ferrules?

The new housings are generally a tad bit smaller than the old, so you might be able to use the old ferrules with new housing. Take a ferrule or two to your LBS and see.

The biggest deal is to ensure you have a proper seat at both ends and the correct ferrule will guarantee that seat.

Yeah, Ebay would be your best bet for fiddly bits - not that you should need them if you've not tossed your original ferrules.
