Miyata identification request
 

I picked this up at the coop I'm really jazzed, all early dura ace, seat post 26.8 rear wheel some switch out. I'm cleaning it up and will have more pictures and the serial number in a few minutes. Thanks

83' team?

Team Miyata, circa 1983-1984. The serial number should tell us the exact year.

The Team and Pro were Miyata's top of the line race bikes. I think only the components were different. That one has had a hard life.

Looks older to me, pre-AX in fact.


Great bike though, and devoid of the problematic AX crankset that seemingly most Team models arrive with. An earlier Team model I believe, late 1970's.


I'm guessing that the price was right(?).

Perfect renewal project. Clean, lube and polish. Really nice.
edit; OK, OA treatment, framesaver, touch up, cables, rubber but it's all there.

Here it is I got the crud off, M297051.

And a few more of it cleaned up a tad. It came apart no issues, seatpost, gooseneck, brakes all good. The cranks on the drive side needed a cheater on the end of the allened one key release helped it break free. The bb itself was rigged with an Italian Campy spindle, funny. Not funny, the cranks are questionable.the brake levers have seen better days.

The alloys seam to be cleaning up well very crusty spots, I don't think its all going to buff but it should be good.

That cleaned up nicely! Man, a Team Miyata. :love: New panel decals should help a ton!

Excellent, excellent find. Brass wire brush the surface rust, clear coat touch up the exposed metal spots, frame saver/rust check the inside, and you're all set.

There you go, it says on the fork that it's a Professional.
I've lusted after a Team or Professional with the splined triple butted tubing (a bit later than yours).
I've seen this color scheme on Koga-Miyatas. Is there a difference other than the labeling between something labeled Koga-Miyata and something just labeled Miyata? Koga Miyata was a dutch/japanese collaboration if memory serves.
