Riding Shoes
 
When did riding shoes (Touring shoes.) come on the market? My friend show me a picture of the early 30s and the riders had on low cut, Army type of boots. Did they starting making them in the 50s or early 60s?

I believe they go all the way back to the start of the cycling craze in the 1890s.

Yup, shoes optimized for cycling date as far back as bike racing.

Here's a photo of track star Major Taylor in 1898. Note the nearly skin-tight custom shoes and toe clips. Cleats for pedals and toe clips data back at least that far.
