Those what had gone before had knowing

of things beyond our reckoning. . .

. . .even beyond our dreaming.

Time counts and keeps counting.

And we knows now. . .

. . .finding the trick of what's

been and lost ain't no easy ride.

But that's our track.

We got to travel it.

And there ain't nobody knows

where it's gonna lead.

Has anyone noticed that the original date the thread started is not visible? Makes it impossible to keep from stepping into zombie threads; unless you can remember them from way back when. Is there a way to turn that back on?

Weird. It won't let me upload images from Craigslist image URLs. It gets to 99% and then stops. How am I supposed to bombard the "are you looking for one of these" thread with ̶s̶p̶a̶m̶ wonderful deals?

EDIT: I guess I can get around this by saving the pic locally and then dragging and dropping it into the image upload tool.

It is smaller ain't it? In Firefox, you can hit command+ and the font in the active window will jump up a size; keep doing until it's bigly readable.

I believe this shortcut works in Safari and most other big name browsers as well.

I would love to do that; we should lobby the admins for it. I've already been caught by zombies twice today.

@Lascauxcaveman, in the thread the admins started about the new design, they've dismissed any requests for that and don't seem to think there is a value in knowing when a thread was started. They said something along the lines of, "when you open the thread, you can see the date on the first post." I, personally would prefer not to have to open the thread.

Test to see if they fixed user tagging yet.

Edit:I guess not.

Roughly about the time that WordStar died, we had the ability to make our displays look like something other than remedial two-tone blue. Yes, it's merely cosmetic, but I have gotten used to not being stuck in the 90's.

Wow, that's pretty tone-deaf. Any heavy user can see the value in seeing the origin date of a thread without having to do extra clicks. It's not like including the date was adding extra lines to the screen; taking up extra real estate.

"Say, let's delete this quite useful feature which costs us nothing; our users will love it!" Who the hell thinks like that?

Also by pasting the image address directly on the page of text, between two bits of html code, as follows:

But scribe all your text first, as the tiny little wee window with which our overlords have graced us will automatically swell with the luscious photo of your swell deal.

Clearly you are not an old Unix hacker. You have only so many keystrokes in your life. The same goes for mouse clicks.

All seriousness aside though , when you work with a touchpad the extra mouse clicks are a areal annoyance. It has become commonplace in the "computer" world for developers to invent new behaviors that apparently seem clever, cute, complex, <your choice of adjective>, or just different but which provide no real user benefit. I attribute this to a desire to be competitive, to make it "better", in the jargon of old car ads "longer, lower, wider". (I'm showing my age with that last quote.) Was there a reason Microsoft moved the three buttons Minimize/Maximize/Close from the upper left to the upper right between Win3.1 and WinXP? Or the Desktop button to the lower right in Win7 instead in the Quick Launch list, and didn't even mark it? Why do the Quick Launch buttons change from starting an app to bringing up the previously started one? Why when you open an app like Excel in Office2016 does it pile up any other open Excel file directly beneath the new one? That's like picking up a pencil to write a note and all other notes written in pencil line up underneath it. Clever I guess, but with absolutely no value, and most of the time harmful to the experience of the user who is concerned with the content of any open files rather than what kind of file they may be.

So, yeah, it does matter.

So worst case scenario is you spend less time on the internet? And that's a bad thing?

Yes, and in Chrome, you can use the "Zoom Page WE" extension to set persistent, per-site zoom levels, either text only or text and images.

"So what have here is a failure to communicate." The developers are clearly not real-world forum users and what sounds great in an "enhancement" meeting can turn into a step backwards for real-world use. Sadly, all too typical.

I develop/maintain websites for a living and have done that for 15 years, so I have some experience with this process. But for the sites I manage, the buck stops with me so I can (mostly) prevent this from happening. Sometimes you do have to accept that the customer wants what the customer wants. In those cases, fairly frequently, they will soon figure out that my suggestions are offered based on a lot of experience, and not some "let's do it this way because no one else does" kind of thinking. Different is not always better - sometimes it causes frustration. Just like the myriad of BB "standards".

As an example, navigation menus take up precious screen real estate. Having them appear when needed and shrink when not needed saves valuable screen space and lessens the need to scroll. However, having this work properly on small screen devices like phones and tablets takes some effort, because a phone or tablet user doesn't have a mouse, they have fingers.

My point was, why take away this nice li'l feature? It was appreciated by many of us (most of us?) and it was already there. I seriously doubt it caused any programming/cost/design troubles. It's not as if by removing it they're saving any screen space for an even better feature; where that little chunk of pertinent info used to be is now just dead white space.

not to be an apologist, but having run a vintage motorcycle forum for several years, lets give them a few weeks to work things out - In my case I was doing it for free to help the community out, so that same community *****ing and moaning at me would not have sit so well and the answers to questions may not have been so diplomatic.

again: the bikeforum admins are not the programmers of the bulletin software being used and they are working within those confines to bring us the best experience they can.
