Seeing all these other lovely Stellas is really inspiring me to get thing going with my build. I realized (duh!) that I could get this thing on the road quicker by borrowing wheels from another bike, so I slapped together a build with the parts I had on hand and rode this beauty to work this morning.
I wanted to make sure I like the way it rides before investing in new paint and decals. Mission accomplished!
I've been talking to Jeffrey Bock about paint. Now I just need to get some orange pedals.

I like the idea of keeping most everything clamped on. Except bottle bosses. Those are always ugly. It's the one thing I did on my Eroica Gran(d) Sport(s). No one called me out on it fwiw.

Two of the frame features I always liked about mine, and it looks like yours has them too, are the wrap over seat stays and the long fork crown tangs. I agree that bottle bosses may be the only desirable addition to the frame to keep it in context, appearance-wise. If you plan to add the seat tube panel take that into account where the seat tube bosses will go.

I had to rotate the chainstay cable stop out a bit to keep the cable away from the chain in the lowest gear, but I love the Huret Jubilee cable guide. Not only does it add a nice bit of chrome contrast to the orange paint, it's also just a really interesting design. Maybe moving the cable stop back a bit would also fix the problem. At least with a clamp-on stop I have options like that.

The red pedals were the only ones I had that weren't on a bike. Obviously the correct solution is to buy another red bike and then get different pedals for this one. Crank Brothers did make orange ones, but plain silver might be better. And I can't imagine what I was thinking when I bought the tubes that are on these wheels. If those valve stems were any longer they'd be in danger of bumping the hubs.

Your choices are things you might have done over the years had you always owned the bike. I have a few vintage wheels with those aero wheel stems just because it was all I had when I needed a new tube. Not aesthetically pleasing but they ride just fine. Don

1971 or so mid level. Given to me by a friend who owned it since 1976. I put alloy handle bars and wheels with original H.F. hubs
I cleaned it as it was sitting for a long time ,everything works great a little small for me but it came with a really long seat post! Joe

I have been without a fixed gear for a while, and this SX-73 seemed like a good candidate. She’s a smooth rider, although the skinny bars are an acquired taste. Jury is still out on those, Frenchy-chic as they are.
(Edit) btw you might be able to make out on the full photo that mine does have the shift lever stop under the downtube as referenced earlier.

I can't believe I haven't put my updated Stella on here since it was finished. I rode this bike today out in the Columbia River Gorge. While it's not the bike I ride most often, I think this is my favorite bike at the moment.
