Decaleur
My new front bag needed a decaleur so I cobbled this together. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...78f5f9244.jpeg Fixturing in support of attaching the horns to the stem anchor plate required some head scratching. This is what I came up with. The fork assy is in the vise jaws. Fiddle but it worked perfectly. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4383ea66b.jpeg Initial test fit.the fork backing plate will be lightened (holes) and a full width stiffener will be mounted on the inside of the bag and bolted to the fork backing plate. Tube ends will be sealed. Not finished but good for a half days work. |
Very nice for half a day's work! Jigging that little booger took some ingenuity.
You gonna chrome that? It certainly deserves it. |
Thanks. Absolutely! Gotta match the rack I built! I think I'm going to add a little strap keeper between the two bolts on the fork backing plate so that I can simply use a toe strap to secure the bag to the tomb stone so it won't jump out on a rough ride. That's not nearly as clever as a spring-loaded pin but for a version one decaleur it's quick and should be effective. Right now I just want to get this thing on the road so I can enjoy riding down here before it gets hotter than fire. |
Great job! Custom fittings, brass brazing, leather, canvas... that's nice.

Not bad at all. 👍 When you re-invent it to be spring-loaded, can I have your crappy-looking prototype? 😉 I seriously need one, and even know what it's called now. 😁

Very cool decalur. Simple, elegant design. I think it's worth plating once you get it cleaned up and the ends capped.
I'd have done mine the same way if I had a torch. Reminds me I still need to put up pics of my brain dead design. Next week maybe. |
