In response to the OP, my 1983, full 531 model 700 has that same bottom bracket with the cast in Trek wording and the same style under BB cable routing.

Yeah, the RD cable routing tells me it's an '83, or a "mongrel" like Ruby. As said, '83 600 is the closest match in terms of markings

This is a red, or at least yellow, flag to me. I kinda get not disclosing the serial number, perhaps some concern about a scam or something. But anyone selling a bike on the open market should be fully prepared to meet potential buyers who want to see the bike in real life before making even the slightest commitment, or even an indication toward one. I've had plenty of people contact and meet me, test ride the bike, and still not buy. It's part of doing business. And especially given the photo is obviously not current, that suggests to me that either he's been wanting to sell it for a while now, or that there's no actual bike for sale.

That's the kind of model you'd expect to see it on. It seems totally out of place on a 400-level 22.5-inch 022 frame with a 1982 serial number.
