Steve, I think the originals were sensitive to UV, but if yours were "sheltered" for a long time, they could be in great shape. I need a set for a 27" 1952 Rudge drop-bar bike, twin to a Raleigh Super Lenton of that same year. Mine are a yellowed white, and labelled "Featherweight" rather than "Popular."

With Mafac brake and some other centerpulls, you can replace the bolt with a standard hardware bolt that is a little longer. (I turned a rear Mafac into a front. I believe I ground down the head to eliminate interference with the caliper arm. (I did it so long ago I don't remember what was involved but it wasn't hard.) Both my Trek and Raleigh Competition are double nutted for fenders so I have have done this for both bikes.

I turn all my Mafac calipers into fronts and my Weinmanns into rears. With the power in front and stiffness in back, braking is superb and the feel uniform front and rear. (The Weinmann stiffness nicely making up for the full length TT houisng.)

I've bought bikes just because of the Bluemels Club Specials on them. I like 'em that much.

Bad memories! I lived in Albany, NY and rode year-round. Went through a few sets that way. No other options that I recall back then.

These were made by a now-defunct company called Headland. My LBS bought up their stock and was selling them for $20. I should have bought more.

With the addition of some Sheldon Fender Nuts that could make for a real quick fender removal/installation.

+1 to what Road Fan asked. I have the same rack but have yet to install it. A little scared of marring up the painted fork crowns.

Also how does the wood hold up? I would think wood + wet/dry cycling = no good.
