Thought this was worth more than just inclusion in the eBay/Craigslist thread

Interesting collection. He's got the same market issue there that I do - it's small

Wow, I'd bet you could get upwards of 75 cents per hour in all the work required to resell those bikes.

Yeah, there's something similar on a much smaller scale up by me - 30 old bikes for $50 - but most of them as Schwinn's - not Paramounts, but Varsity's and the like - I've been strongly advised NOT to buy the lot, but still, it's get a guy thinking...

If 10 of them were decent, you could keep those and donate the remainder to a coop and take a tax write off.

Yep, with a great bonus of frustration to sweeten the deal.

Heck, if 5 were decent, I'd keep them and just drive the rest right to Goodwill. There's no coop around me else they'd be the victims, I mean, beneficiaries of the gift. I've already looked into renting a UHaul (and yes, my wife thinks I'm nuts to even imagine it).

The problem with this sort of deal is that it seems very likely that whoever owns the bikes has already filtered out any bike worth much. What are you going to do with 60 bikes with Ashtabula cranks?

If one was thinking of flipping bikes, Maybe as the Portland bikes anyway appear marketable. Profitable? Only if you took major shortcuts- avoided repacking bearings unless ABSOLUTELY necessary, etc.

Bike Shop mechanic secret, the top tier bikes are easier to work on and the value of the effort is less of the total worth.

I have seen this for about the last 3 months in the Seattle CL, perhaps @Lascauxcaveman has a sideline down the coast a bit??

I've been trying to avoid CL as much as possible, except to post bikes "FOR SALE." It's been working out OK so far; I'm N-3+1 from two months ago.

But as a fellow seller, I feel for the guy; old bikes don't get much love around here; unless you're talking something pretty special. And the seller makes it pretty clear in his listing he's both a bike guy and flipper, so you know for sure there's no really good stuff included in this fire-sale lot. If I happened to be headed out that way I'd stop in and take a look, but I wouldn't be buying.

The bikes I see in the ad look like the ones I just donate to the co-op. He's cleared out all of the good stuff.

That's what I get for moving away from WA...

I would go just to check it out, but somehow I doubt I would really find anything. But I don't ever see stuff like that here. Usually if I see something good it is at least an hour and a half away...
