Magil Special Frame
Scored this Magil Special for my Wife and wondering if anyone knows anything more about it. Only thing on the web that came up was a Magil Construction out of Canada. Looks pretty Italian, but who knows. Frame has nice details and some chrome bling! Any info would be great.

bicycle seems to have difficulty deciding upon its name. downtube transfers say Magil while chainstay stamping says Maggil. flags shown in head transfer and downtube transfers depict flags of Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy. wonder if they are present to suggest something about cycle's heritage or "just there for looks"... are you able to make out the writing in black on the drive side chainstay? ----- |
Very nice bike score there. Like the stamped on pantographing on the head tube and the seatstay plus the color!!:thumb: The seat stay tops look very much what you will see on a Bottecchia. I wonder if there might have been a relationship between the two brands.....

Fishmouth stay ends are an interesting touch, as is the chromed panel on the underside of the down tube; that feature would be very practical. Weird that the spelling of the brand is inconsistent between the decals and the chainstay engraving. Looks fairly well-made, tho the head lugs appear not to have received much in the way of thinning. Workmanlike is the way I'd characterize it.
OP: Does the stamping on the underside of the BB shell read "GILMO"? Perhaps there's a clue there and the bike may have been made for an aspiring racer. DD |
Two nice bikes right there.
