Too risky? Rusty drop out

A buddy of mine found this Leesport Mountain Sport for cheap on c-list. I swapped over all my parts from my rusty Mongoose ATB only to find this rust in the driveside fork dropout. What's ya'lls opinion of this? Too risky to ride? I am going to bring it to a local shop to get an in-person opinion but thought I would also check with the deeply knowledgeable hive mind here.

I think that is insignificant.

Rust? I see chipped paint, maybe a little surface rust. Although it's difficult to diagnose rust issues by pictures alone, I find that rust concerns are almost always over-inflated.

Here's an example. Based on the rust you see, would you ride this?

Ride it hard! Worry about the cars trying to kill you!

I'd give a dose of naval Jelly on the rust and then nail polish over the bare spots, from the pics it doesn't look too bad

I would indeed! The rust on my Mongoose completely encompassed that area and was pretty gnarly. I rode it that way for a long while. My thinking here is that a fork failure is much more concerning than a crack in BB.

True that, but note that the metal around your dropout is quite a bit thicker than the seat tube on that bottom bracket. Remove the rust, you'll be shocked at how little it penetrated.

Sounds good. I'll do some cleanup on it, maybe do some framesaver inside the leg if I can access it, and keep an eye on it. And definitely will watch out for those cars...

At least it doesn't have barnacles.
