Campag Friction Lever Problems

Folks

I have some Campagnolo Record downtube shifters 1013/5N and the left hand side that does the front changer is not holding in the big ring. I have tightened the adjuster but it still wont help, any ideas to look out for while I strip it down ?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Is that the one with the white plastic insert? If so, use no grease at all. Clean up completely. Use a drop of blue loctite on the adjuster screw threads. Buff the white plastic thing with scotchbrite a bit.

Really they don't work that well. Try to replace with the earlier model with all metal washers. These are from the era when everyone started using Simplex retrofrictions, for good reason.

If you have the metal washer version and it's slipping, it may be missing a part or something.

Daveyk15 - follow Salamandrine advice and give us some pictures of what you have. It may be an issue of not being assembled correctly or missing parts. Oh and what FD are you using, Campagnolo?

I got good input here a few months ago about using some threadlocker on the wing nut. No problems since.

I had one which would not tighten enough to hold because the screw was bottoming in the braze-on fitting. I cleaned up the threads with a tap and all was good.
