This is what friends are for.
Last Friday I got a note from Andy_K.
"Bad wing or no, grab the keys and go get it!" Copper colored Raleigh International, looks like my size, local. Andy knew I was searching for one. I contacted the guy immediately, and found that I was second in line. First in line either passed or didn't get back to the seller in time, so early Saturday morning I drove over and picked it up. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6b6caf953e.jpg Serial number shows it's a '74 |
Congrats! And yes to good friends! |
Very cool, I picked one up today also. |

24-1/2" or 23-1/2"? You already know that it's not 650B material unless you're into dimpling the chainstays, or plan to use tires only modestly wide.

Congrats on the nice score. A lovely bike and perfect color for the approaching fall season. And props to Andy of course.

It's a 24 1/2 CTT as Raleigh measured them. (60cm CTC) Yeah, you and I went through this mind experiment awhile back when I thought I had a 73, and that one turned out to be a 71 (slightly longer stays). I had a 73 or 74 in the shop awhile back and 42's didn't fit. I didn't expect this one too either, but a test fit showed it was possible: https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...db9d131a8d.jpg 2-3mm clearance BTW, those are some fairly old 42's, fully stretched out. I'm not sure whether I'll dimple this one or not, but if I do, it will only be a modest one. The more you dimple, the more flexible the stays are. I'll have some time to think about it. None of the components are original. I'm guessing this was bought originally for the Campy group, as many were, then rebuilt with various parts, none of which match. I've got plenty of projects to keep me busy for awhile, so I don't have to decide for awhile. Might just put on some wider tires and ride it as is for now. |

Looks in nice shape. :thumb:
Happy Copper International day to you and sloar! |
From the international side of things, yours looks great, nice find.
|
Nice! I know a guy in Portland who can modify that for you. |
Friends find you a bike.
Good friends help you move. Great friends help you move a body. |
Way too tall for me, but great find! Beautiful frame.
|
Nice look'n bike.
that Andy is an OK guy |
That's always been one of my favorites, and copper is THE color for this model, imo. :thumb:
Closing in on getting a 20-1/2" one on the road for my wife. A front brake hanger is the only missing piece. p.s. If you're looking for a 24-1/2" Professional (I think it's a '74 or '75), I can put you in touch with someone here who has one. |
Cool bike bra. Is anyone concerned that Goog is trying to corner the Raleigh market? |
