I'm going to Disneyland!

I received this 1962 Disneyland script Paramount P12 today. I've been working on the deal for 2 months and it finally came together with a facilitation assist from ACH57. The bike has been in the same family since new and is in great condition with original paint. Other than the headset and hubs, all of the original components have been replaced with newer parts. I intend to restore it with more period correct components (not necessarily exact) as I find them. As I go along, I'll be posting photos of the progress.

I'm pretty sure that he, like me wanted pics before the rip and tear to start with. ;)

Congratulations! looks good

Beautiful - great combo of color, striping and script. Oh, and the bike, too. Congrats!

Looks like you added wax before the frame set pics, or is that how it came?

Salamandrine 08-22-18 08:16 PM

Wow. That's a real stunning bike. I'm so jealous. ;) Just nuts.

What is the story with the Disneyland script? Was it just a couple years, a special option?

Looking forward to this build for sure. Weinmann centerpulls I guess? Was a campy record crank a factory option in 62? Water bottle cages should be on the handlebars, but you know that. ;)

The Disneyland script decals were standard only for 2 years (?); '61 and '62 from photos I've seen. For brakes, I have a very nice set of Universal m-61 center pulls that I will be using.

Campy Record was available in 1962 and was an option for Paramounts. The cranks were 151bcd then but I'm going to go with a slighter newer NR 144bcd crank; I don't think my knees would ever forgive me if I went with the 151bcd. I have a 1st gen. Record FD with cable stop coming and am looking for an early Record RD as well as a set of old Weinmann tubular rims. I've been looking at bar mounted bottle cages; those things are expensive!

I did a quick polish, but as received the paint was in really nice condition for it's age.

Beautiful bike, congrats!

The Golden Boy 08-23-18 04:04 AM

Well for goodness sake! That's a beautiful bike!

Congratulations!

pastorbobnlnh 08-23-18 04:39 AM

Simply stunning! Thanks for the additional pictures. This has to be the nicest Disney script Paramount ever posted here on C&V. :thumb:

stardognine 08-23-18 11:13 AM

Honestly, I never even heard of the Disney script before, but I definitely see it. 😎 I was born in '61, so I already knew cool things were happening then. 😁😉
Sweet bike, congrats!👍

Thanks for the info. Sounds good. Going with 144 Record cranks is sensible. 42 is big enough for a small chainring. Not like they look different anyway. I still have a first gen Record FD with a stop in my parts box, and I don't even remember where I got it! It's currently a desk decoration. :)

The replica REG style 'Elite' bar mount cages aren't too bad, though not exactly cheap. Anyone tried them? I never liked the spring cages, but in handlebar position, they might be useful for preventing fly away bottles. Still this bike is special enough to justify forking out for vintage TA or something.

Yeah it is; it's just going to take a little while mentally to fork the money over for one.

Too bad you can't time travel back into the 70s. You could have gone to Thrifty's and bought a TA cage with a water bottle for $2.99, and checked your tubes while you were there...

You're not making it any easier.

You should know Schwinn is crap so you should just send it to me I will make sure it gets donated correctly. You certainly don't want some old junky bike cluttering up your house.

Seriously though that is a nice looking bike. Love that Disney script logo and just the whole look of it. Classic Paramount w/531 is just sexy.

Kactus, when you first learned of this bike, did you wish upon a star? :) Nice catch, either way.

colbz111 08-23-18 09:37 PM

very nice

gugie 08-24-18 10:12 AM

Looking through the pictures I was sure it was a repaint until I saw the faded 531 decals.

Oddly, I don't feel the need to apply a torch to this one...

:D

Beautiful!

LOL at the torch. 😁 I was going to mention the condition of that Reynolds decal, too. Usually, you can't even read them, getting this old. 🙂

When communicating with the seller I also was skeptical of the paint being original. After seeing photos of the 531 decal and the Olympic Rings decal, I felt a little better. Bikerider007 also went to look at the bike and felt that the paint was original, so I felt comfortable prior to buy it.

Oh... and thanks for not wanting to torch it!

Tacoma's only a two hour drive from me...someone hold me back!
