Unidentified European Road Bike

Hi everyone,

I recently picked up a what seems to be european road bike but it has been repainted and the second owner doesn't' know what make it is. I have a picture of the bottom bracket and it has a very unique design. I don't have enough posts on this forum and they won't allow me to attach a picture. Is there a work around for this?

Not sure if it would be a red flag with the mods, but perhaps do a pile of one word responses to hit the minimum.

Otherwise, perhaps a link to an online album such as photobucket or imgur? I look forward to seeing pics!

Fastest = go to Introductions section. Say hi to 8 people.

With the recent changes , i'm not sure of the newbie work around.
@bikesy - 2 posts in 8 years = selective with the questions, eh?

1970's Carlton Raleigh? "CC" for "Carlton Cycles"

Brake bridge without center pull "strap" and pump peg suggests better quality frame (International? Professional?), though I do not believe either of those had brazed cable guides on the top tube.
Super Course?

Dual bottle mounts, pump peg, chrome drops, braze on FD and DT shifters. Nice bike, even before the fancy BB. I'm jealous. What does the cranks have stamped on them? They look like the only original components.

CC cutouts, fastback seatstay = Raleigh Professional %99.

Nice score, looks good, cable guides likely added, not original.

Good catch on the seatstay. I agree - Professional.
If so, this is a great find. Worthy of stripping down (will also reveal the serial number) and restoring.

bikesy -

as everyone has pointed out, you have an early 1970's Raleigh Pro there.

braze-ons not original.

this type of seat cluster arrangement is termed a Brampton Victor.

you should be able to narrow the frame down to a specific year via its serial number.

there is a guide here:

https://www.kurtkaminer.com/TH_raleigh_serials.html

this is a very good find; enjoy!

Brings up an interesting question, did any Italian builders use the Brampton or similar besides Cinelli which were quite a bit different anyway?

have seen Brampton Victor style arrangments on frames which did not employ the Brampton but do not know the names/models of the respective lug makers. this would be a good question for our framebuilder members..

Italy had their own "Malaguti" design which was arguably a similar idea. This image shows an Agrati "ROMA" lugset nr. 000.8020/U with a Malaguti style seat lug -

Tx, still quite a bit more conventional than the "step down" style of the Brampton. Were they plain or did they have a seatstay attachment built in?

Concur that it looks like a Raleigh Professional. Is there a serial number on the bottom bracket?

Sorry,

were there seatstay end caps built into the Brampton Victor and did anyone else have the attachment points that far down on the lug?

Would think that "plug" might be the more appropriate term in this instance...but am certainly no expert!

You might find something here to answer some of your questions -

https://fietssite.jouwweb.nl/framedelen/frameparts

This is a rather good resource for those interested in learning about frame bits.

When I repainted my Raleigh Pro, I noticed the seat stays were brazed to the reinforcing plate on the back side of the seat lug. No sockets.

Forum had quite an extensive discussion on "fastback seat stays" here -

@bikesy -

This post gives an overview of the Raleigh Professional model ca. 1969-77. Might help you to understand where your example fits in to the timeline.
