I have had great results with a 2 part epoxy prime, then an enamel color. I then shoot 2 part clear over everything, and it's extremely durable.

For this paint job, I shot a metallic silver over the epoxy prime and let it flash off completely (like 45 minutes) then shot a candy berry/pink (that is the hard part!).

I am going to just ignore the frame for at least a week before applying the decals and shooting the clear.

I'm signed up. My non-riding wife is joining me and we're sort of celebrating our 33rd anniversary while we're there. I may just ride the short route so we can have a lazy breakfast before the scheduled 9:30-10:00 start. The short route looks like it doesn't have much gravel to deal with and easy hills, so that will give me more options with bikes that won't fit the 28-32mm tires I've used for the previous 4 years.

I signed up for the classic ride on Sunday but am now considering also doing the Nova ride on Saturday. The combo ticket saves you money but too late for that. Does anyone know if I can add on the Nova ride at a discount? Thanks in advance...

Well, sorry this thread has been dormant for the past 3-4 weeks, have been fighting colds, flu and a hospital stay for my daughter plus recovery at home. Had stopped riding for almost 8 weeks due to the above and scheduling / bad weather, trying to get more seat and climbing time in over the next 4-5 weeks. Only 5 weeks to go before Eroica.

Hope everyone has switched over to the Italian registration site: https://www.myeroica.cc/login/login.php You may have to contact Eroica CC about linking your previous paid registration to your new profile. They say you MUST sign up again with the exact same name, DOB and other info. IMO, be sure you have copies of the email confirmations previously sent, your registration number, and copies of the Paypal receipts for payment showing date and registration number. You can also sign up for the Friday BBQ (as send off for NOVA Eroica riders) and the Saturday Italian dinner and auction for the Classic Eroica riders. If you have problems, be sure to copy all documentation and send emails to Eroica CC (NOT Eroica California - they don't handle the registration directly).

I still hope to ride and complete the 75 mile Santa Lucia route. Interestingly, current information on the Eroica California Website shows the following program times and ride starts:
FRIDAY, APRIL 5TH
1pm to 5:30pm – Nova Eroica ride number pickup
6:00pm to 7.00pm – VIP reception and press conference

I'm not quite sure why there is a 1 hour gap between the last Via Dello Scalatore riders and the start of the Santa Lucia riders - seems to me some of us on the 75 mile ride may need all the time available to finish!! More likely, its to avoid confusion on the routes, allow for the rest stops to handle the influxes of waves of riders, and to allow signage to specifically spell out which way to go for the 82 mile riders. I also suspect there will be some congestion on the walking parts of the climbs for those of us who need to walk (me included).

As a reminder, I will tally those who indicate they are attending or riding ( on this thread and Gugie's thread, and any other relevant thread) for this 2019 Eroica California. I will gather that info in a Google spreadsheet and send links to anyone who would like to see it.

I know Gugie's thread has some social gathering info and plans but if anyone else wants to set up via this thread, no problems either.

Just an FYI. I am going and planning on the Heroic route ( but may chicken out, depends on my training with toe clips, gearing tinkering, fitness etc). i am staying at Gugie's B&B. not sure about any social stuff, but I am looking forward to meeting some of the C&V guys i see posting here all the time.

At this point I'm 80% certain I'll be doing the Piedras Blancas route. I had big plans for lots of riding to be ready for the 75 mile route, but a couple of business trips are going to have me away from the bike for about three weeks at the beginning of March, so reality is starting to set in.

On the plus side, the 35 mile route makes it more practical for me to ride the Gios.



Anyone up for a ride down to Cayucos on that Saturday?

I was just thinking Cayucos for lunch and back on Saturday would be nice. If really windy like last year then drive to Cayucos and do it the other way, ha ha.

The3 predominant wind direction is from the North or Northwest. but last year in June, we had a huge wind from the south. so I say, just ride, and deal with the wind as if it was a hill.

I’ve been going to Cambria since the early ‘70’s. If you’re going to ride the coast and stay on the asphalt, going north is by far the direction to go. The coastline as you head into the Hearst castle area and beyond is absolutely spectacular. If you want to add some miles past the Lighthouse, head to Ragged Point. Great food.

As to the weather, as of this date Feb 27, northern Cal is predicted to get rain for the next 10 days. A lot of this is going to hit the coastline around Cambria and back into the hills. To dry things out in the hills, your going to need a week of back to back days above 65F and good sun, otherwise it’s going to be a bit muddy.

Not only am I bringing air this year, I'm bringing clinchers and tubes. I've always been a little hesitant about tubulars, but last year I wanted to give it a go just to have had the experience. I'd say my experience was a bit like dipping a toe in the pond to test the waters and having it bitten by a snapping turtle.

I'm local to San Luis Obispo. We've been getting tons of rain this year -- 122% of normal so far with a big week of Atmospheric River continuing. It could take quite a while to dry out if it continues. Muddy conditions on the interior gravel roads could look a lot like last years Strade Bianche (Google it to see for yourself)!

Getting really anxious! Last year was a disappointment as I fell about 6 miles in and spent the rest of the day in the hospital with 5 broken bones in my face and a broken hand! i know that it was my own stupidity , but why did it have to happen on that day? I ride a lot , every week 35-50 miles and know each and every one of my bikes . I have done Eroica every year ,oh well, I guesss the worst is behind me at this point. Open road and good times for sure , really looking forward to seeing my friends and the whole social thing. The swap meet is always fun . I am 90% sure I will ride the resurrected ItalVega, but , who knows?

Kabuki, I'd suggest adding the later black letter Italvega logos on the down tube and Gran Rally on the top tube - although with your Campagnolo equipment upgrades, you've sort of got a hybrid Gran Rally / Super Record version. Gotta Represent the Italvega brand besides the headbadge.

I know where to get the down tube decals ,I think . You are right about getting rid of the "Generic " look of this bike. I do like the aged appearance though. As far as the Gran Rally top tube decals , I have not seen any at all and I don't know any pin stripers . Joe
