Microshift is another company that makes drivetrain groups, but not brakes/hubs/cranksets. The shifters and mechs are Shimano compatible, and usually found at decent prices via ebay retailers. They make the components for Sun XCD, but also sell under the Microshift brand.

If you go all black, Chain Reaction has a good sale on 105 brakes right now.

The components get good reviews and the prices I see on e bay are very tempting. Their brifters look especially sharp and well built. Nice to see another company in the game.

I purchased a black bike with a black group several years ago and never warmed to the look so I replaced all the black bits with silver. On another forum a member with the same frame and a black group later changed his to silver and he said that seeing mine influenced his decision. I can't find any old pics when it was all black but here it is with the silver group.....IMO it really makes the black frame stand out.
BTW, that's a pretty bike. What is it?

Another nice thing about silver crank arms, which is quickly a negative about black ones, is they hide scratches. Black crank arms make the inevitable scratch appear 10x worse.

That's the only reservation I have - black wall tires! I'm a sucker for tan walls. But I have some black walls sitting around that I might try, at least temporarily.
I am in love with the Velo Orange Cru Noir Crankset in black. Just beautiful with all the drillium, but its $200. Ouch. But this frame could well be worth it. We shall see!

A question - I'm looking at a 9 speed campy ergo system that includes rear derailleur and shifters. Seller says its for a 3x9 system. I want to go 2x9. Is it possible?

Hoping to have her ready around Christmas. Of course then there is January, February and March to contend with, but she will definitely be in the streets by spring!
I will be in touch, thank you for the offer!

Sure, change the crankset, set the FD limit screws and chain length properly and you're good to go. The shifters could be either double or triple. Well anything above xenon or mirage anyway. It seems like some of those were starting to index at 9s, but I could be wrong.

He said it can work, but not optimally. He said it would be tough to get the trim shift points correct, so I'm guessing that it would shift ok, there would always be some noise and chatter which is a no-go.
No rush really, but he had the 2 shifters with the rear derailleur in VGC for $75, which I thought was a great deal.
