Dumb quick question: # of bearings in a race
okay, I should know this but then I read something on the internet that gave me doubt. I’m re-regeasing the wheel bearings on the Novara Randonee I just got (older model) and when I removed the front acle there was a gap about the size of a bearing. So ten came out, but I wanted to check if someone previously shorted a bearing and see that eleven seem to fit, so now I’m wondering if a gap is correct or if I should pack it full. Argh. In the past I’ve not seen a wide enough gap to insert another bearing making it obvious how many are needed. These bearings are about .187” diameter. help please, thank you. |
A gap is correct. It allows the bearings to move freely.
Traditional rule of thumb is put bearings in till no more will fit, then remove one. |
Thank you, got it back together and it seems to be good. |
