Are these the Altus you're talking about? https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/...4aAkpDEALw_wcB
I have faced the same brake compatibility issues as you and those brakes have worked very well for me. Easy to adjust too!!

yup....those are the ones. I have never had a problem with them....sure they are big and bulky but they are easy to setup, cheap and look good. Put some koolstops on them and they work fantasic.
Tektro has some 500 series ones kind of like these but i have tried those yet.

Those Altus brakes really do work great, same basic geometry as all the other low profile Shimano brakes, LX, XT and XTR. Pretty hard to mess up, especially if you use the straddle link wire thing they come with. They still have the horrible plastic spring housing, but they must have changed the design and type of plastic as they don't self destruct like the old ones.
If you must have older generation canti brakes, just let me know. The brake hoarding has gotten out of hand and I'll be attempting to list a bunch on here at some point.

id be curious what you have and what you would want for them. I am in no hurry now since it is in the 20s for temps around here now. I have time on my side until spring.
