Too bad. You might have liked some of the stuff they had for sale there:

Anyway, mrs non-fixie and I just got back from Saumur. I've mentioned before that the 10,000 tickets were sold out within a couple of hours, and I now know why. It's a lot of fun for just a few euros.

The concept is somewhat different from L'Eroica. Here, the bike seems mostly an excuse to be relentlessly nostalgic. Put on a a flowery dress, a funny hat, grab any old bike from the shed, check if the wheels still turn and you're good to go.

We had a nice view of the venue from our hotel across the river Loire, which is impressive by itself:

Nice stuff at the jumble sale:

The one I wanted, however, could not count on the budget owner's approval :

Waiting for the start of Sunday's ride:

typical "AVV" tools: old bike, water bottle, wine glass - to be filled at every stop (we had 6 in both the 60k on Saturday and the 40k on Sunday):

The French take lunch seriously. Even with 10,000 participants. You sit at a table:

And get three courses. Main, cheese and dessert. And wine, of course.

The pork sausage, BTW, was exceptionally nice. I would like to thank whoever made those:

Saw some nice bikes along the way, too. Like this Paris:

And these, from a well-known shop in the Rue Victor Hugo:

And to top it off, we got to enjoy a couple of drinks with @MiloFrance and Bob (thanks guys!). And, I got to wear my favorite Tee:

A friend of mine was at La Mitica a couple three weeks ago. He said something similar, but lumped L'Eroica into the bunch too. His exact quote

"Ultimamente noto che a questo tipo di eventi è diminuito l'interesse per la qualità delle biciclette, iniziano a sembrare delle feste di carnevale a tema bici d'epoca..."

"seems like a vintage bike themed carnivale"
