Shimano Crane/Crane GS/Crane GS Short Cage?

I have a Shimano Crane derailleur on my Volare, and thought it might be a good idea to pick up a GS to allow lower gears (not needed immediately, but I'm not getting any younger). Poking around, I noticed this eBay auction. Is this just a cage swap, or is there such a thing? Was the geometry of the Crane and Crane GS parallelograms different, or is the only functional difference the length of the pulley cage?

Besides the cage itself I also believe the cage tension (P-Tension) spring is different between the short cage (Crane) and long cage (Crane GS), I assume the long cage spring would be stiffer:
