Olympia (Olympiade) Sport

Here is an Olympia (Olympiade) Sport, a frame that was built by a local framebuilder from Hilversum, the Netherlands. There is no much information on these bikes available on the internet, but apparently they are mostly custom built bikes. My guess is that this particular frame is from the 60s or even 50s, but it's hard to tell.

I bought the frame as you can see it in the pictures. The previous owner stripped the original paint down and powder coated it (very unfortunate!). He also brazed some extra eyelets on the fork, so I will have to deal with that. The paintwork is quite decent, but not perfect (especially in the areas close to chrome). What is the best I can do with it, by the way? Try to smooth it down or just hide it?

According to the seller, the frame came with Edco hubs, a 4 speed freewheel and Nervar cranks. So basically he bought it as a frame, not as a complete bike.
I am not planning to restore this bike to its initial state, partly because it's impossible to say at this point what those original components were. My idea was to build it mostly with campy stuff, this is the least this frame deserves, in my opinion.
Recently, I got the original Olympia transfers (thanks to @nishikiroadace) so the project is going on. I hope that they still gonna work, the only way to figure it out is to try, of course.

This is how the frame looked originally.

Here is a link to another Olympia Sport supposedly from the 50s. Olympia Olympiade Ruitenbeek jaren 50
I am thinking wheather I should try to build my frame as close as possible to that other bike or just with quility components (not neccesarily period correct). However, it seems that the bike in the link was also modified at some point. Plus, that bike might be older than my Olympia. The original components seem to be: Titan handlebar from 1953, Prior hubs (just googled them and they are super rare! Velobase ), Gnutti headset and Stronglight cranks.

I've got these, seems they had to go onto the top tube.
Yellow only, no other Olympiade decals.

you could re-do the lug lining with a paint pen (sold in art stores) and wet sand the bumps and defects in the paint with very high grit sandpaper to smooth and polish it. I've done this before with frames ive painted myself. but otherwise just ride it :)

Thanks, I still have those decals I've got from you. It's just a matter of time, other projects distract and keep me being busy, you know.
Incidentally, there was someone on MP recently selling all kind of decals and such. I've got another set of Olympia Sport decals from him for the other bike.

Thanks for advice. I've never done lug lining myself but I am sure I won't do it worse than how it's done right now.

Something I haven't noticed before. Both the red frameset and the green bike have Campy 1010 dropouts with spring hole.

IIRC both verktyg and T-Mar have written that the end of the spring hole was 1973. it is suggested that cycles produced later which exhibit it are a case of the maker using up old stock.

OTOH we have had cycles/framesets posted which are clearly pre-1973 which do not exhibit the spring hole. in some cases at least it may be that the maker filled in the hole, for whatever unknown reason...

Thanks juvela, very infomative as always.

Found out that all four tubes on the green bike are closed/blocked at the bottom bracket shell with cork plugs or similar material in the same fashion as on the mystery bike. Could that give an indication of the bike's age?

Here is more evidence that blocking bike tubes in this way is not a good idea.

I'll have a look if any of my bikes have the spring hole. I never noticed it before.

No, no sign of spring holes. The bikes and frame all have Bocama lugs, wrap around seatstays, different builder, and the silver one even has a chain holder, so that one must surely be a 1980/81 bike.
