You could have not said it better......except maybe the "up my bike count by one". Two would have been better, three even better. +1

Riding in this area, with this group of C&V riders is one of the highlights for my year. I smiled when I realized that there was approx. 40 registrants and approx. 120 bikes so far registered. I personally only registered two bikes as I am not sure what my +1, and my other +1 will be yet. CHEERS to all of you who are going to be there. I can't wait!!!!

Just found out that I will not be able to attend - wife's knee surgery will require me spending all of my vacation time (and then some) helping her recover.

I almost forgot to book a room before they get sold out. Looks luxurious but I'll have to work a lot of overtime to pay for this trip.

Donna and I are staying at the Dairyland Motel, I've never been but the pictures show it to be a pretty cool looking place, I think Speedevil is staying there as well.

You will enjoy it. Definitely comfortable. You can tell them you know me when you check in, but I'm not sure I can guarantee what they'll say.

PM me if you need to. For the kind of money one spends at one place, you'd be surprised what you can find.

OK, so not just bumping. I need to clear up anything that anyone is not sure about. I don't want to sound harsh, but I can't write in pink. I'm also not officially anything, but I do know what's going on, a little bit.

1. This is not an organized "event." It's not the Dairyland Dare, North Shore Century, etc etc. There is no "organization," no SAG, no rest stops, no official route. It's a birthday party for Fausto Coppi, and we're pitching in. At the same time, a bunch of like-minded nice people will bring bikes to a public place and show them off, eat a bit, and meet/greet/ogle bikes.

2. The ride is on public roads and there is no support. Law enforcement is not going to be holding court at any intersection. I may well have a friend in a pickup who just happens to drive around the course, over and over. He/she may well have things you need, but not a thing is guaranteed. Same as one year at the Dare, a red pickup kept driving by and people asked "do you have your own SAG?" "No, I've had a heart attack and a stroke, and my family wants to make sure I'm really, really dead if something happens."

3. There are no rest stops. There are two parks, and there may well be a friend of two of mine hanging out with stuff. There are convenience stores on the route, but it's not like they're going to marshall you in, give you a bottle and change your nappy. No volunteer is going to make you a PB&J. There are no porta-johns. If the parks don't have rest rooms, well, there are trees.

4. We are all grown-ups who can find our way around a small Wisconsin county on bikes, spend a few hours in scenic magic bike land without adult supervision. We can stop where we want, buy what we need, and take care of our own bikes. We can also carry cell phones and call for help to friends or recent acquaintences if we need same. I remember @bibliobob blowing two tires before we began Bartali. Once we stopped laughing at him, we made sure he had anything he needed. Then he outrode most of us, as did his wife.

5. If you are registered, that means you agreed to chip in, maybe get a souvenir. If you are not, doesn't mean you can't show up. See 1.2. 3. above.

It's all about the bikes, fun, Coppi, and that spirit of getting out there. You will be doing it pretty much on your own, in the company of others doing the same. I can't describe how cool it is. It just is, and anyone who went to @speedevil's Bourbon/Tobacco tour, or @rhm's L'Hombra, or @iab's Centenario Bartali, or @steelbikeguy's ride in Chillicothe is glad they did. It's a nice reminder that we don't need an event to go riding.

OK, that being said, there is likely a meet/greet at Tony's Tap on Friday night, in Mineral Point. If you come into town Friday night, stop by. Pretty sure there will be a bunch of us there. Tony thinks we're all loopy, but he'll take care of us.

Saturday, some plan to ride the 50K course in the morning, then lunch somewhere and then go set up their bikes and start planning the theft of the nicer ones. There are also folks who may want to re-do the Mount Horeb root beer ride on Military Ridge, or the ride down into New Glarus (very nice brewery) and onto the N-S trail that goes through railroad tunnels. Doesn't matter, it's all good, we're all grown-ups, and just relax and soak up the mojo.

Sunday, we ride. No pace, no race, no place like this area.

If it was the Wabash near Indiana, I'd be all over it.
As such, I believe it's on the other side of Middle Earth?

Ha! I know the ride you speak of, but no treacherous journeys here. West Lafayette IN. I updated the link for the 2019 date.

Looks like a thing to do. Registered. Nice cooldown, considering I'll be riding RAW the weekend before, 225 miles. If I live, the Wabash looks good.
